The one LP that is the worst in this department is Nat King Cole's "Just One of Those Things". Maybe someone can tell me if the vocals on there are as sibilant on their system as on mine.
Follow Ups:
Fact, many have a higher tolerance for sibilance than others. I thought you were referring to, relative to your understood norm, excessive sibilance.Something that might be either equipment or room related. It's simple to isolate offending LPs. A LP that has taken a turn for the worst is another matter. Only you would know. You need a solid place to start.
I was simply giving this one recording as an example as it is the worst offender in that department I can think of. Most LPs or CDs or SACDs of female vocals have a degree of sibilance on my system. I know that Michael Fremer's review in Stereophile indicated that the Prelude MTS had a slight sibilance. I have added some absorption on the ceiling at the point of first reflection, but it hasn't gotten rid of this annoying artefact.I will try to find a CD that annoys me with its sibilance and listen to it on each of the two systems I have to see if it can be heard on both; not the fairest of comparisons but I can't move the equipment in and out of their present location very easily.
Michael Fremer's review of the Intermezzo 2.6 makes several references to the Prelude MTS. In part, my purchase of the 2.6 was based on the presumption that the sibilance issue was resolved with the 2.6. His only reservation was it could be too "in your face" (???) on-axis.He did say that both the MTS and 2.6 shared the same tweeter/ waveguide configuration. I learned from reading Mr.Fremer's reviews that we don't share the same idea of optimal speaker placement (bit too close to room boundries) or tolerance for sibilance.
I find the 2.6 to be unbearable unless toed-out. Toed-out, in my system, sibliance vanishes. What's remarkable to me, I can't detect a discernable difference in imaging, detail, etc. from straight, on-axis, or toe-in. Of course, YMMV.
