I have a pair in my closet. I found them way too bright for my tastes. I tried break in, adding a tweeter resistor, and covering tweeter with tissue and nothing helped to my satisfaction.
Follow Ups:
Interesting, I dont feel that way at all. I am just hoping that the bottom end opens up a little bit and gets a tad deeper. I am running them with a small chip amp and feel that they are magnificent down to about 80hz. I have never heard anyone critize the tweeter on these...
I have a pair of Z7 and Z1. They are essentially the same speaker but the Z7 has deeper bass. I drive the Z7 with a DK Design VS1 MKII amp. That amp has very good control over the bass. If you can find a pair of used Z7 grab them.
I am really impressed with the Z1. If instruments had a little more weight they would be just inredible. My room mandates that they are at least 2 ft from the back walls so bass is an issue for me. With the z7 I am sure it is not. However, the "hard stuff" for a buget speaker to pull off- like a wide and deep soundstage, pure midrange and good space/air are all here in abundance. The tweeter is just in another league.I expect that a small powered sub will bring them to the next level.
