I have two KLH AV55 towers, and one unidentified liquid cooled box with a woofer, midrange and tweeter. Have a Harmon Karden 730 integrated amp. Avg impedance of each "box" is 8 ohms. What is the best way to connect the three to the amp. Sorry I am a rank novice audiophile so please forgive the very basic question. Thanks in advance. Jim

why do you need 3 speakers??Generally speaking, speakers are used as stereo pairs, unless we are talking home theatre.
If you insist on having all 3 connected, I'd connect the KLH pair to the "speaker A" terminals, and the other one to one of the "speaker B" channels. You can switch the amplifier to mono, and get the same sound through all 3 speakers.
It would really make more sense to just use the KLH's as a normal pair, and forget about the 3rd, as it won't add anything unless its purpose is to bring sound to another room.
That's what I thought too. I bought the speakers for $50 for all 3 speakers, and he threw in an active subwoofer which I am not going to use either. Thanks for the reply. Jim
...is don't.
Why don't??? Was my question so stupid you refuse to answer or are you just yanking my chain?
No offense intended.
No offence taken. I just didn't understand your reply. I know it was a really basic question. But I had three speackers, and I didn't know if there was a way to use the third without going mono. I am going to research the third speaker which is a liquid cooled speaker (I don't know exactly how the cooling helps or how it works, but I have one, maybe I'll look around for another. How do the KLH speakers compare to say Klipch speakers? Thanks again. Jim
Well, speaker choices are certainly a matter of personal taste, what kind of music you listen to, the size of your room, volume levels, and so on. Comparing KLH with Klipsch, you'd need to be more specific as to which models. Generally-speaking, my personal opinion is Klipsch speakers are better than KLH. Since I'm totally into building my own, it's been a while since I've auditioned a commercial loudspeaker system.
Yes, I understand what you are saying. Matter of fact I considered / am considering removing the components and building my own speakers. Both of the KLH towers have two woofers and one mid and one tweeter. The odd box has one of each but also has tuning controls which I have no idea how to use. I guess I reall need a primer on speakers and how to build your own system. I think in the near term I'm going to hook up the two towers (my wife hates how they look, so they wont last long), and just enjoy my new (to me) RtoR deck and my HK730 and just get to know them. Thanks for your input. I would be glad for any guidance as to how to build a speaker, or maybe mount them in the wall or ceiling. Maybe there are some online references. Thanks. Jim
...you should try a kit. Or, if you're a bit more adventurous, there are some highly regarded designs from Dennis Murphy (www.murphyblaster.com), John Krutke (http://www.zaphaudio.com/), Troel Gravesen (http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/Diy_Loudspeaker_Projects.htm), or Parts Express (www.partsexpress.com). Google "diy loudspeakers" and se what comes up.
