I have a chance to pickup a set of Audes Blues at a great price, though I am running a Marantz SR-5400 at the moment. Now I know the 90 watts is no problem, but I think the Blues are a nominal 4 ohm speaker and the Marantz states a minimum of 6 ohms on the back panel speakers connection. Can I get away with a 4 ohm nominal impedance? I really can't upgrade the reciever and get the Blues at the same time.
Follow Ups:
It's not resistance, it is impedance. It is far more complex than you may imanage. If you took a meter and ran it across your binding posts of your speakers, you would see what is know as the DC resistance of the speaker. The impedance is the AC resistance, and cannot be measured with a meter. It is complex, so it has to be given in phase, and magnitude. An impedance analyzer could do that...Audio 101 for the day...
yes, your speakers will work JUST fine on the 5400. It may run a little warm, but I SERIOUSLY doubt you will hurt it. It have run harder loads on lesser amps with great sucuess. Just make sure you do not close in your reciever on all sides, it may want to breathe.
Happy listening!!!
Thanks for the input. I do run the reciever on an open shelf to allow air flow.
...forcing air up thru the unit, JIC you fall in love with the sounds of the combination and find yourself cranking it up often.
... it sounds quite cool...
