...your thoughts, good or bad, are appreciated. I have checked the archives, but would appreciate more and/or recent opinions. Particularly on the McCullough GS.Oz
Follow Ups:
I had the Reimer McCullough (non GS version). It was pretty good. A step up from the Hot Rod Shearwaters but a step down from the Merlin VSM SE. I liked the speaker.
I have only heard the units (and others) in show conditions. The older (non-GS) model was more to my liking. The newer units that use alot of Hi-Vi drive units are more edgy, more light, for me not as relaxing. (Carefull, I've used some of the Hi-Vi units and have a preconcieved notion on what sonic traits they have which may cause me to "hear" these traits even if they don't exist). Also I have used at length ribbon units from them and respect what they can do and what needs to be done to avoid the nasties.Back to the units. Well constructed enclosures, non-amateur execution of the xover, gotta like anybody who is out of Wyo.
But recalling your past units and extrapolating that to a sonic preference, I'm not certain they are up your alley. More like the Shearwaters than the Montana's.
The HiVi tweeters have exceedingly high levels of distortion. This might explain why some people use highly colored tube amplification with them.
