Hey guys...I am currently speakerless and have been searching for a pair of B&W DM-7II, which I have owned before.
I heard the Meridian M2 once, many years ago and was impressed.
Does anyone have enough experience with both of these to compare/contrast them?
Thanks.
Dean.

I dont know if you disconnected the APOC circuit in your old ones but in case you didnt, it makes a world of difference as first attested to me by B&W techs in England who admitted that the APOC circuitry degraded the sound and disconnecting it (very easy to do) was VERY worthwhile which was an understatement: transient accuracy and speed and overall dynamics and clarity of sound are vastly improved. A substantial part of the crossover components is devoted to the APOC and it filters the life out of the speakers. Without it they become different speakers - for the better!
I also took off all of the push-on connectors off of the drivers and crossover and directly soldered everything. I upgraded all of the wires at this same time. I did away with the binding posts and upgraded them as well. Lots of worthwhile improvements can be made... if I could only find a pair !
I've run the B&W DM7s since 1978 (Mk 1..but upgraded to be more like Mk2 - then modded some more - Superb speakers) -also use modded Quad ESL57s.They turn up on eBay UK a few times a year.
The Meridian M2 I heard - but would agree with the opinion at the time that they are a bit 'pokey' in dynamics - and there are now issues with the rubber surrounds of the KEF B110s afer over 20 years.
The tweeter, too, is hardly the height of sophistication.Interestingly, on eBay UK at the moment (last day or so) is what appears to be a very similar speaker to the DM7/II - the DM2000 - Take a look at the link.
The tweeter diaphragm would be the polyamid TXS26 - and the other 2 units look familiar...so if the DM7s don't turn up maybe these would be acceptable (and pretty cheap..??)

I've owned the DM7 four times. The first was a MKI pair that I bought from none other than Sam Telig himself (we live in the same town). I upgraded those to a pair of MKII the next year. I sold those to chase other dreams and ended up with another pair a year later. I sold those in a moment of stupidity and then bought my last pair from the Northeast Regional B&W Sales Rep... a pair that he had tweeked at the factory with 801 tweeters!!! Like a moron, I sold those too.All these years later I've decided to build a quasi-vintage system and I think the DM7II is just the ticket. I missed a set of MKIs on AudiogoN last month and being in CT I am not too anxious to have a pair shipped here from the UK.
I am dying to get my hands on another pair.
Thanks for your input on the Meridian. I appreciate it.
I've just been doing a B&W Google search for the DM2000 - they were $1295 in 1984.. (more expensive than the DM7s? - those RRP were GBP400 in 1978)
Seems some were FS in Michigan a few months back.
I wasn't thinking of your shipping them from the UK!!I dramatically improved the DM7s by modding the Bass/Mid voice-coil assembly (I'd got fed-up breaking them - one hit into the magnet and they'd 'unravel'- my mod (one amongst many..) cured that - and removed the 'coloration' - which I'd spent a decade trying to vanquish!
