Just saw these new "calssic" series speakers from NHT on thier website and they look great. I wonder if the Classic 4 will be superior to the older 2.9's?? Ive heard they will sell for under $2000 which seems like a bargain! Anyone have any ideas when they will become available? The use of the midrange dome really got me excited, as ive always liked speakers that used midrange domes, especually ATC's excellent 3in midrange. Ive been looking for new speakers for the basment to replace the Klipsch rf-7's for sometime, but could never find anything that i liked better that I could afford, right now I have a pir of PSB Gols's in the house, at first they impressed me but as ive listen for a while I still like the way the Klipschs do rock and metal better. Maybe the new NHT's will be the ticket!

Is the Classic line supposed to me more of a 2 channel music speaker and the evolution more for HT?? Wouldnt the Classic 4 with an x2/a1 be very close in price and performance to the Evolution t5?? Seems they would compete with each other?? Mr Ashman can you explain a little about this?? Which is supposed to be th higher end speaker, the Evolution line or the Classic line?
The answers are:d. All of the above.
In most instances, the Classic Four will provide a better musical experience than the Evolution because of the lower distortion, wide dispersion design. Evolutions do have an edge in bass performance, however.
Compared to a T5, the Four will have a more spacious, "open" sound and more resolution. The bass will likely have a little more "thump" on the Four, vs a more precisely tracked and rendered bass on the T5/T6. I suspect the Four will play marginally louder than the T5, but not quite as loud as the T6. I also suspect that few people will need or have interest in the X2/A1 add on.
They do compete with each other. The Evos are deemed to be more "custom installation" and the Classic is more "retail/audiophile"
Both speakers are high-end in their own way, the Evos being more forgiving of bad environments and the Classics making the most of good ones. Each has their own strengths.
What are some reasonably priced amplifiers that you reccomend to drive NHT speakers?? When I say reasonably priced I mean maybe in the $2500 range for a pre-amp/power amp combo.
Thanks
But probably will never own because I'll be full digital active.......
So NAD is a good match with NHT?? Any others you reccomend that work well with NHT, im considering a used pair of 2.9's or the Cassic 4. Still searching for a speaker for the basement to replace the Klipsch RF-7's.
Yes, the combo works very well. I also like stuff like YBA, C-J, McCormack, but there are lots of good amps. All you can do is get the speakers in your room, then spend some time auditioning. I brought up the NAD M3 because it gives you the best bang/buck of anything I've ever seen before and is a supercharged version of the overwhelmingly great NAD Silver Series S300 which was a big hit in Europe. The Four will have a bigger, more open, detailed, more spacious sound than the 2.9 with a bit more thump on the bottom. Imagine the Goldi but with tighter, more detailed bass, more detailed and more spacious upper mids, a more refined treble.
Thanks for the info. I would love to know how the 4 will compare to the older 2.9. It should be better I would think?

If you like the Klipsch RF-7's for the type of music you listen to, why don't you look into maybe having the crossovers upgraded since you're on a budget. This could be even better than buying a new pair of speakers and woud be alot cheaper, just a thought. How come you soured on the PSB Gold's so fast?
I havent given up on the PSB's yet, but they just dont have that "exciting" sound that the Klipsch's have. They are a bit to polite I think for the music I listen to. Don't get me wrong they are really excellent speakers, but for Metal I like a speaker with a bit more "bite", the PSB's are a bit to polite for this kind of music.Ive yet to find a speaker that had a sound that was as fun and exciting to listen to as the Klipsch's, they just have that upfront in your face sound that is great for heavy rock. The problem is that they dissapoint on other lighter music. If I only listened to metal I would be very happy with the Klipsch's, but when I put on lighter music, Norah Jones for example the Klipsch's are just not that good. The PSB's are far better with that kind of music. I guess you cant have everything at this under $3k price point.
