VMPS subwoofers will solve your problem..the new original sub....
The VMPS is the absolute best on music I've ever heard, but with the optional megawoofer and soundcoat, it is more the $500 (but if you go through a dealer, they do give discounts). Otherwise, the Rava is a very nice sub that can certainly do the "music only" thing very well.
VMPS subs are passive... you need to bring your own amp (if you have a spare 100w SS amp lying around or can find one cheap at a grage sale you are good to go) and you need a crossover (Marchand XM-9 is excellent, but you could certainly use the XM1 for less money).By putting the amp and XO outside the sub enclosure, I'm sure that long-term reliability is improved.
I have the VMPS New Original Sub, and I love it... but I've never heard the Rava or the Titanic (both of these have had many excellent reviews).
I couldn't find Jon Pomann's web page when I posted my note above... this is a very low-cost option.
Vance Dickason Titanic 10" subwoofer. $350 delivered from partsexpress.com. Musical, fast, deep.
and what are its specs?
Here's the url for the Titanic 10" subwoofer.
I own the sub you mention. It sounds good, but I wouldn't say it goes deep. It doesn't seem to go much lower than my mains (B&W M803sII). I would rather have a HSU VTF-2 in the price range. Worth the extra few bucks IMO.
