RE subwoofer: Believe me I've tried, but have yet to find one that doesn't muddy my Spicas midrange. Have auditioned units in my room ranging in price from $500 to $1500. Alas, nothing will produce a seamless blend. Because the Spicas do nothing much below 55HZ, it's easy to point to subs location.

how did you position the subs? That is crucial.
I can't believe it is that hard to get the sub figured out.
Ever try using stereo subwoofers positioned behind the speakers? That would allow you to run a much higher crossover without the localazation getting noticable. I have an active crossover between my main speakers at about 70hz and they blend pretty well. Using a single sub the blend is definently much worse. With an active crossover, your speakers midrange should be less muddy, as it doesn't have to try and produce low bass. Maybe its worth a try.
I have a Rel Strata III Subwoofer. I have had no trouble at all getting this Subwoofer to Blend seamlessly. Others on this forum have had no trouble either.
You are more apt to muddy your midrange with cabinets that produce the bass as well as the mids. This is why I prefer standmounts.

cut-throat:Where do you position your sub in relation to your speakers?
What size room are you in?
My sub is between and behind the speakers and about 10 inches from the back wall. My room is rather large 30' x 25'

I have the GR Diluceo's with a REL Strata III about 2' from the back wall, 8" from the side wall. My Diluceos are about 5' from the backwall, and 2' from the side walls.

forgot to mention that the Diluceo's are rated at -3db @ 55hz similar to yours. There is no way that I could localize bass at 55 hz and determine where it was coming from. If you can hear that, hat's off to you!
