Looking for a speaker capable of throwing a convincing soundstage as well as my 10 year old Spica TC-50's, but capable of delivering some serious bass. Unfortunately, my Spicas don't do much below 55 HZ.Not looking for home theatre theatrical boom booms, just realistic bass down to 30-35HZ. TYIA

The Rava SE costs about a hundred dollars more than the Rava plain. The only difference between the two is the amplifier. The SE amp is actually less powerful than the plain, 200 watts vs. 250 but (and this is a big but), the SE utilizes a 24DB L&R crossover. I've had many subs and have always preferred the 4th. order rolloff. With the crossover set at 50HZ the bass is 30DB down at 100HZ, well out of the way of voices. Also, the faster roll-off makes the subs location truly undetectable. It also offers a parametric equalizer with 2 adjustable knobs, that lets you boost the bass 6DB under 50HZ. High and low inputs, detachable IEC power cord and switchable phase. Nice.
ENOUGH ALREADY, HOW DOES IT SOUND. It sounds great. I use it with the Reynaud Twins and it's a perfect match. Tight, musical, bass as deep as you want it and plays louder than the Twins can handle. For $500. Who would've guessed. Excellent people to deal with, to boot.
Take a look at the 6XL's over at www.carolinaaudio.com He makes amazing transmission lines that give great bass exension in a totally coherent way. Really I think that this is the way to go. He also uses series crossovers for a completely transparent midrange.I am using the Carolina JTM's in my room using the 4" full range Jordan driver and with his transmission line design am getting beteer bass out of them the the Audio Physic Virgo's that I used to have. They are fantastic speakers. The JTM's are $1500 and the slightly larger 6XL's ( 6 1/2" 2-ways ) are $1800 and will give you deeper bass.
I get the idea that you are really enjoying the coherence and transparency of you speakers and this transmission line design is the speaker that finally fot the bill for me.... coherence is so important.
I don't know your budget, but...since you like your existing speakers, why not make a sub?
RE subwoofer: Believe me I've tried, but have yet to find one that doesn't muddy my Spicas midrange. Have auditioned units in my room ranging in price from $500 to $1500. Alas, nothing will produce a seamless blend. Because the Spicas do nothing much below 55HZ, it's easy to point to subs location.
how did you position the subs? That is crucial.
I can't believe it is that hard to get the sub figured out.
Ever try using stereo subwoofers positioned behind the speakers? That would allow you to run a much higher crossover without the localazation getting noticable. I have an active crossover between my main speakers at about 70hz and they blend pretty well. Using a single sub the blend is definently much worse. With an active crossover, your speakers midrange should be less muddy, as it doesn't have to try and produce low bass. Maybe its worth a try.
I have a Rel Strata III Subwoofer. I have had no trouble at all getting this Subwoofer to Blend seamlessly. Others on this forum have had no trouble either.
You are more apt to muddy your midrange with cabinets that produce the bass as well as the mids. This is why I prefer standmounts.

cut-throat:Where do you position your sub in relation to your speakers?
What size room are you in?
My sub is between and behind the speakers and about 10 inches from the back wall. My room is rather large 30' x 25'

I have the GR Diluceo's with a REL Strata III about 2' from the back wall, 8" from the side wall. My Diluceos are about 5' from the backwall, and 2' from the side walls.

forgot to mention that the Diluceo's are rated at -3db @ 55hz similar to yours. There is no way that I could localize bass at 55 hz and determine where it was coming from. If you can hear that, hat's off to you!
