You may want to consider auditioning if you can......The ACI Sapphire II's are very good and lean a little toward the warm side. Your Audio Refinement does too, - so if you listen to a lot of agressive music,- and/or don't like a warm sound, - the CDM 1NT is a very agressive speaker. (To me, -the 1NT is not in the same league as the Triangle/ACI because of it's agressive nature, - extended, uncolored upper treble, and lack of mid-range warmth or "bloom.'
The Spendor's are dark IMO, - to me, - they would be too dark for an Audio Refinement, - but perhaps not if you like a lot of acoustic music and prefer a heavier sound. What source do you have?
I have never heard a Triangle speaker that didn't amaze me for the price....I also very much like the Silverline, - but the one that I listened to is at a $2K price point....Many fellow inmates here are justifiably high on the speakers from GR Research, - the Paradox and AV1.
I am a former owner of the 1NT and find it to be pretty low on my value list given my tastes and knowing what I know now....
Good luck
Follow Ups:
i'll be using the audio ref. with a rega planet 2000.i liked the triangles but they lacked a little bit on the bass. what have you heard about joseph audio rm7, harbeth, and tyler acoustic they are a little bit over my budget but some people seem to like them. i've heard the totem rokk and also liked it. thanks for your response, please keep them coming.
First, don't buy until you take it home for the weekend or at least an evening, good high end stores do this cuz they know that everyone's system and room is different. Having said that, I have played with JM Labs, owned by Focal which means Focal drivers, lots of bang for the buck. Haven't heard your other choices, hope this helps.
thanks guys for getting back.well my list of choices goes like this
triangle titus(too bright)
spendor s3/5,s3/1
jmlabs chorus 706, cobalt 806
totem rokk
b&w cdm1 nt
jean marie rey.-twin mkii(also shy on the bass)
new recomendations:
joseph audio rm7,tyler acoustics taylo mini, harbeth, kinima g1(all slightly over my budget)
this system will be my first one and is going to be placed in my room.i listen to 80% jazz and then a little of everything else.
It looks like you're in the under $1000 range, but I'm not sure. The Audio Refinement is a great integrated, and as was stated above, a bit warm. I own Triangle Titus 202's, and have listened to them with the Audio Refinement. That combo sounds fantastic with Jazz. Did you audition them to determine that they were too bright? I do suspect that they are slightly tipped up in the mid-treble, but I haven't seen any measurements to confirm this. It's tough to say because they are very fast speakers which retrieve a great amount of detail, which makes them sound a bit thin compared to other speakers. Whether that's good or bad is relative. I will say that the build quality on the Triangles is great. Cast woofer baskets, sinks for the screws which hold the drivers to the enclosure, and what look like quality components in a simple crossover (all have the Triangle brand name on them). Break in is important with the Titus, it really does get less lean as time goes on.
A speaker which isn't on your list but should be is the Axiom Audio M22ti. Factory direct for $400 with a 30 money back guarantee. You could spend a lot more for speakers that aren't as good.
If your budget extends a bit higher, take a look at Meadowlark Swifts. I listened to them for about an hour at a dealer with B&K seperates and an Arcam Diva 92. The room was small, and I listened very near field, but I enjoyed them. I wished that I could have had time to compare them to a speaker that I knew better, but if I was buying speakers under $1000, they would be on my list. A bonus is that they are small floorstanders and don't require a stand. They also look beautiful, if that's a consideration.
A speaker I haven't listened to but gets consistent great reviews is the Ascend Acoustics CBM-170. It's somewhere around $300, and it's specs and measurements show that it goes about as deep as the Triangles. Check out the Soundstage review at the site below, it has measurements for the Ascends, which show incredibly flat response for a speaker at that price.
