Just purchased a vintage Fisher X-100-3 integrated amp, alleged to have ~ 18-20 wpc. Was thinking of an all-vintage system at first, likely utilizing Dynaco A-25 speakers, but now (what a crazy disease) I'm intrigued by the notion of hooking this amp up to GR Research AV-1's. Am I going nuts, or would this be a good/great combo? Any thoughts v. much appreciated.

Hi Scott,
My friend in Dallas uses a Dodd Audio 8wpc amp{wonderful piece of gear BTW}with a pair of the AV1's.He has his stuff in a small room and it sounds very nice.Again no concert volume but it works.Make sure you get the cap upgrade.I put them in my Paradox 3's and was very happy.

Absolutely. I used this very same setup for a year or so. Don't expect concert lever volume from the wee Fisher though. If you're looking to go loud the Klipsch Reference monitors might be worth a listen. Danny's AV-1's are very nice speaks. Enjoy.
Thanks, Charlie. Went to your page and noticed you have the Onkyo listed now, yet still have the A/V-1's. I assume you went for more power. Within the absolute volume limit of the Fisher X-100/AV-1 setup, did you get good sound, i.e, musicality, sweet mids, etc? How was detail? I used to rock but at the ripe age of 39 am now loving acoustic jazz and some classical, so I'd put a premium on voice (esp. female), sax and other horns, strings, piano and good overall pace. Small room here, BTW. And...how's the sound w/ the Onkyo by comparison? Simply louder, or better?Based on your real world experience, any thoughts would be most highly valued. Thanks a lot!
