These guys (BDA) claim that the DK Designs VS-1 Reference MkII integrated amplifier betters all the other high end gear that they sell (Levinson, Mcintosh, ARC, Krell, Boulder, MF, Cary, CJ, Rowland etc etc). When you look at the manufacturer's sites, BDA is NOT listed as a dealer for any of them. When you ask to purchase any of this other gear, they "do not have it in stock".Whois gives the following address for BDA:
912 Village Lane
Blue Diamond Nevada 89004
Domain Server: WSC1.JOMAX.NETDoing a search of the address gives us an Elementary school!:
http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/browse_school/nv/13/Blue Diamond has a population of 282. Would you run a High End shop in a town that size??
I hope that DK Designs looks into the legitimacy of this dealer soon.
They may not have to look too far because they use the exact same webserver for their web sites (WSC1.JOMAX.NET)!
Hope I have saved someone a potentially bad experience.
It may all be on the up and up, but too many warning signs on this one.
Follow Ups:
The telephone no. is a Vegas area code and prefix. Not listed-surprise.
I use NeoTrace, and it returned different results for the shown WebSite addy. After a convoluted 22 node trace, we end up at IP 64.202.167.35 secureserver.net.
Whois has no reg for for secureserver.net.
Site host for the IP is:
OrgName: Go Daddy Software, Inc.
OrgID: GDS-31
Address: 14455 N Hayden Road
Address: Suite 226
City: Scottsdale
StateProv: AZ
PostalCode: 85260Appears to be a discount Site Host (as low as $3.95/mo!)
This outfit hands off to CERFNET, and their backbone provider is ATT.net.I'm not interested in tracing the tel no ($$), but that would be revealing. Note that the site states the their line list "may" constitue "used" items. Read: all. A real hero would forward the Site addy to all manufacturers listed.
Conclusion: It's a dial-up connection (not even a DSL line, which NeoTrace would show), with a bogus, unregistered domain name. It's a spare bedroom operation, probably an Ebay/Audiogon turn-and-burn churner.
Ran across something similar on Audiogon w/ cables. Establish yourself as an "Audio Store", by a five-pack of cables from the mfgr, and scalp them on Audiogon for maybe $10 profit each.
a bogus, unregistered domain name
Reminds me of an old tale:
"On one forgotten server, there is a domain that was never registered, and then there is a hidden doorway where one can go BEYOUND the Internet" ;)
it has only a small post office and offers loop holes like avoiding smog checks and the like.it has a small general store with 2 gas pumps.
a small library and church, and a bicycle shop/rental facility.
1 community pool and the sign leading into town says something like.
pop. 272
burro's ?
there is no shop there unless a business is out of someone house or they are using the town's mailbox to get orders outside a local vegas dealer.
similiar/like to the parasound halo dealer here in vegas.
if you check that out
it claims to be a shop called stereo plus.
which closed over 10 years ago and sold only car audio.
if you check the address for stereo plus.
it is lake mead and buffalo or something.
when i drove over to suite 1?? or what ever it was a baja fresh restaurant.
i know there was only 1 truley high end shop in vegas, "the upper ear"
but it is no longer.
and the employee's went to open another store "premiere home video"
a few shops titled ????home theatre and the like, have popped up along warm springs and other places near the airport. and i have met with a few people who come to town and specialize in set up and listen in home.
but there are very few high end stores here.
some/other people like
tiger tech audio still have a phone number that work.but no shop.
i heard b and k at tiger tech and it did not sound very good.
i prefered the sound of harman kardon signature series gear.
maybe they have gotten better, but if any of that helps.
there you go.
Thanks for the warning. It could be pure coincidence though that they both use the same webserver as they are both registered under one of the larger and more economical web server service providers.
Not like they both use some small local ISP.
