Hello:I would be interested to know if anyone has seen or even used one of the new R-F-T M16, Mark II tube microphones produced by Telefunken USA. The microphone lists for about $1500, or discounted to about $1399 in some places.
There is very little information out on this product, but unless the capsule is entirely Chinese and/or the boards are manufctured abroad and the unit is assembled domestically, it seems like a decent looking product, all things considered.
In fact, the impact of its sheer appearance is quite astonishing.
However, a "wolf in sheeps clothing" comes to mind. How many Chinese tube-based microphones can one have on the market?
An infinite number, apparently.
:-)
Any thoughts?
Follow Ups:
I heard somewhere recently that basically "all" the capsules are
now Chinese in most all of emAint that scary

Good thing we dont get our water from them also
Thanks, STUART!BTW, I should have just done a bit more research on this new Telefunken M16 microphone.
The reason is simple, actually.
If you go to the Gearslutz site (Gearslutz.com), there is an ongoing discussion about how this very microphone is in reality little more than what the folks at Apex sell as their model 460. It appears that the Apex 460 and this Telefunken M16 are practically identical. Then, there is the aspect of accusing Telefunken's representatives of virtually misleading the public in their claim that the microphone is made domestically, though it is apparently true that some components are assembled State-side.Put the entire works in a specially tailored housing, paint it a different color and "doll it up" with a Gotham cable, special (whop-de-do) Phillips tube and jack up the price by about $1200 and you arrive at what they offer to the public.
Or, just take a look at this:

and then draw your own conclusions!
I found the entire matter interesting but altogether not that surprising, given the way things are being made in China and then repackaged for the domestic consumer. Caveat Emptor!
Hi there,The Nady 1150 is also the same mike (for $189 at zzounds.com) and check the same nameless mic at: www.dm-microphones.de. Does anybody knows the chinese dealer? Regards,
