Sorry 4 my English...So! I've got one. It sounds good. The main problem was with correctly wiring it: all the outputs are unbalanced and use XLR connectors where pin 1 is sreen, pin 2 0dB and pin 3 -12 dB! Next...you see, the operating levels are unusual. And I paid it too much ($3500), but it was almost a brand new one. Comparing to contemporary digital mixers, maybe it is too large, buty if you have space enough you'll fell confortable. Peace.
I used a TAC II for 8 years at the club I used to work at and found it to be a great board. The only problem is getting parts for it. Like everyone else said, be sure to get one in great condition. And once you get it, maintain it by cleaning it on a regular basis.
I have a friend who has that exact same console! He's going to try to register for the forum. Either that or you can e-mail me and I will pass along your e-mail address to him.
It is an ok console at best, tooo large, wierd routing, needed to replace all the faders one the one we had at the university. I would look at a different board.

and now for a different opinion......too large? The Scorpion might be the smallest modular console available during the 80's/90's. I spent over one year looking for a 16x8 Scorpion in really nice shape before I purchased my current console. IMHO, the biggest problem with the Scorpion is that it has been unfairly compared to the full price consoles sold by AMEK. No, a Scorpion can't compare to a Rembrandt, or even an Angela, but it is a solid, well built little professional console. And with excellent condition models now selling as low as $1500 (!!!), its hard to go wrong. Just be selective and be sure to get a nice one; its a total "Buyers Market" out there, so take advantage of it.
digital? I'm still not sure about transistors....
A fair assessment and you are veryy correct that it is a buyers market. I purchased a 24 channel TAC scorpion for $800 in good shape and used it to rebuild another that was at the university I worked at a few years back. I do think that my Soundcraft ghost is a better board- quieter mic pre, more usable EQ imo. I do think its cool that we can get a board as good as any of these for such a little sum of $$. In any case, I agree with your assessment that if anyone does buy a board like the scorpion right now, they should look for a one in GREAT shape.
