Some of the best (and most costly) are Tung Sol vT-231, Sylvania 6SN7W, Ken Rad VT-231. I've tried several in mine in various positions and am most happy with the Tung Sol Vt-231 in v1 and Sylvania 6SN7W in v2.
Check out this site which describes the many different 6SN7 varieties.

Is there a consideration with the M-60s as there is with the MA-2s to use a 6SN7 that can handle 400+ volts? In my MA-2s I use 6SN7-GTAs for this reason as opposed to some earlier tubes.
According to the RCA tube manual, there IS a difference in max plate voltage between GTs and later GTA and GTB types (or maybe it was only the GTBs that were rated up to 400V or more; someone will tell us). In any case, it does not matter, because what does matter in that specification is "plate voltage", which is defined as the voltage drop from anode to cathode. Even though an MA2 has a +/-400V power supply, the 6SN7s in the input stage do not see anywhere near 400V plate voltage (because most of the 400V of the B+ supply is dropped across the plate resistor, and because two tubes share the remaining voltage in the cascode configuration). So, what I am saying is that you can use ANY 6SN7 in the input stage, GT, GTA, GTB are all OK. For the driver stage it may be a different story, depending upon the age of a given MA2; I think in some versions of MA2 the driver stage tubes could be seeing more than the 250V max plate voltage rating for a GT (and possibly also for a GTA).
Thanks, Lew. Sounds like a question to ask Ralph while he has them to do the ver.3 regulator update.
