is someone aware around this kind of configuration?
can you tell me if there is some real improvment adding Paul Speltz ZERO autotrasformer to my system?
Actually the system ( SONIC EUPHORIA ( a must...) OTL custom made monobloc and Quads 988) sound s really great but... there is no limit to bettere sound in hifi.
living in Italy it is unpossible to me to make a try so I ask you for and help.

I have been using the combination of Atma-Sphere M-60MkII.2, Quad ESL-988 and Speltz Zero autoformers for over a year. No speaker cable is used, as the M-60s sit just behind the Quads. I also use a REL Storm III subwoofer. The sound is superlative in every way. The Zeros are connected to double the impedence to 16 ohms which eliminates the upper midrange suckout and increases the M-60 output to about 80 Watts. Comparison of the sound before and after the insertion of the Zeros leaves no doubt about the effectiveness of this set up. More gain, more soundstage, more depth, more air.
As Dr. Philosophy implies, one would need to know more about the impedance characteristic of the new Quad speakers and about the output impedance of your OTLs in order to give sound advice.
Thank you for your reply.
My OTLs were made custom for my Quads so there is no problem about compatibility between the devices,
My answer is if the addon of ZEROs also in this particulaer situation "can" give a further improvment to the sound or not.
I live in Italy I have no possibility to make a try of Paul device, this is my "second" problem and the zeros are not cheap...

You wrote, "My OTLs were made custom for my Quads so there is no problem about compatibility between the devices". Obviously not, since you are using the combination and are evidently very satisfied. But your response still does not give us any useful information about your amplifiers. Possibly you can consult the person who made them for you. If they utilize a lot of negative feedback (NFB) to achieve a low output impedance, then most likely you will not get much benefit from the Zeros. What type of output tube do your amps use? How many output tubes per channel? Do you know whether the output stage is a circlotron type or a Futterman type?
I try to reply .. sorry I'm not a technician..
Every monobloch has 4 6C33C running in Class A
The sound is beautiffull and rich in the deep bass area also without the sub that I use very rarely.
Th "nice guru" who made monoblocs of course says that I need nothing but I'd be coriuos to listen to my quads with and without ZEROs..

Why using OTL if you need extra transformer to match impedance ?
I use my OTL monoblocks with Quad ESL-57 without any problem. It is a 16 Ohm speaker. Formerly I had ESL-63 (8 ohm). Also no problem. But 57 goes with low power tube amps easier.
It may worth to try the old 57 instead of the new 9xx series of Quads. I didn't upgraded the 63 to the new series, but back to the old 57, due to 57 was found sonically better than either the 67 or the 9xx.
Ciao Francesco! I was in your wonderful city a few weeks ago for an academic conference. I really did not want to leave...What is the nominal impedance of the 988s, and do they have significant bumps or dips in their impedance curve?
Hi
Thank you for your reply.
Yes Genoa has now great appeal for scientist and for people in general for our museums for our cultural life
Yes Genoa is a wonderfull city I think that now it is not by far for those like you who had visited the town " the city near Portofino" :-)
Returning to hifi gears: in my system with my OTLs all goes right the problem si to understand "if" adding the ZEROs there would be benefits in the sound

I stayed near the cathedrale, tried many restaurants, caffes and osteria, spent many hours in the palazzi with their art collections. The conference dinner was spent surrounded by sharks in the aquarium, a little unnerving. Do you know the chap who sings and plays accordian, in the streets between Piazza Ferrari and the harbour? One of the best street musicians I have ever come across.I would not be tempted to try the Zeros unless my amps were having trouble supplying the needed current.I had thought that Quads in general have some spikes in their impedance graph but no serious dips - good news for OTL owners, and which suggests that autoformers would only get in the way. But others know more about this than me.
