I am not sure what you are asking. On the one hand, it seems you want to use an outboard single-ended phono stage with the MP1, and then you speak about driving an SE amplifier with the MP1. Am I correct in thinking that you are asking really two different questions? There are several ways to solve your problems, but I suggest you consult Ralph on what works best. But if you have both a stand-alone phono stage and an SE "integrated" amplifier, why bother to route the phono signal thru the MP1 at all? The phono stage should be able to drive the integrated amplifier directly, RCA to RCA, and you would just use the volume control on the integrated amplifier.
Follow Ups:
I obviously did not make myself clear. I need to drive BOTH an MP-1 and a single ended pre-amp in ANOTHER system - with one phono rig, at different times. In different rooms, by moving the turntable. Clear?
So if the tonearm cables are XLRs, as demanded by the MP-1, then it wont drive the second system (not simultaneously)and if it RCA, then it cant drive the MP-1.
Clear?
You can operate the MP-1 phono section with RCA inputs. You will not lose any gain, but you will lose the noise rejection characteristics of the cable (*not* the preamp).Adaptors can be convenient for this purpose. I would set up the tonearm cable with XLRs, and then adapt to RCA as your needs require.
OR- the MP-1 can be set up with either input.
There are a variety of techniques for using the MP-1 with single-ended power amplifier inputs. The simplest method is to connect pin 1 of the XLR to pin 3, using pin 2 as the hot output. This works quite well with single-ended triode amplifiers in particular. If you are using a subwoofer with a single-ended input then I have different recommendations, depending on the subwoofer. Again, contact us for details.
Myself, I would use phono cartridge in balanced mode with XLR on tonearm cable to MP1 phono stage. This would be getting the best out of the cartridge. For the other system I would use an adapter XLR-RCA to feed either separate phono stage and integrated amp. A compromise is needed somewhere and I think it better not to compromise the ultimate i.e. balanced mode with MP1.
On further thinking, actually the XLR-RCA adapter would not be a compromise for the SE system if done correctly. The balanced minus phase would just become ground, which is normal.
I have a MP3 preamp, with similar inputs and, as I see it, you have 2 solutions:1.- switch RCA cables to the MP1 "monitor in" inputs, then select in the MP1 front panel the "main" position and, under the "monitor loop" the input number where you have hooked the RCA cables to "on" position.
2.- Or use a RCA-XLR (with RCA phono cables for the MP1 XLR inputs)or XLR-RCA (with XLR phono cables for the SE preamp input) converter plugs.
IŽd use the first solution, with RCA cables, unless you want to run a fully balanced system with the MP1, then IŽd go the 2nd way (XLR-RCA for SE preamp).

Thanks, all. I took the "easy" way out - bought a balanced phono stage (EAR 824) so that I can use XLRs out to the Aux balanced inputs of the MP-1. I did this, Ralph, rather than have you install your phono stage as I want to be able to use the TT with single ended preamps that I have, as well, so need an external phono stage.
