A London STS LP entitled simply: "Brahms Piano Music: Wilhelm Backhaus". Absolutely stunning.
see my 2p's worth
His London STS of Haydn Piano Music ain't bad either......not bad at all!!Tom B.
Hi to you both,I no longer have any Backhaus LP's as someone ripped them off in the '70s when I was sharing houses.
Backhaus is an interesting character,
with tastes and training going back to the time when Graf and later Bosendorfer-made Viennese actions were still in use, eg by Mahler.
I do not know of any recordings of him playing on one, but they were what he preferred if possible.
He was the guy who made me notice Haydn's work for the piano. It is good to see more than one 'complete?' set, two on FP's, and another coming!

I recently picked up an Arkadia CD at Berkshire Record Outlet that has Backhaus playing the Brahms PC 2 and some solo works from 1932. Cheap CD doesn't have any program notes, but I'll bet he's using a Bosendorfer on that one.
