I thought Dipole had the back wave out of phase, and BIpole had it in phase and needed another driver.

The SMG brochure says it is a bipole speaker. What is the deal?

  Yes. All Magneplanars are pure dipoles. Dipoles are characterized by the rear wave propogating in opposite phase as the front wave.

  I have read other early references to Magnepans as "bipole" speakers, which obviously is not the description we'd use today.
