Howdy All,Newbie question here. I'm just learning about chokes, and I'm preparing to build my first pair of amps from scratch.
I'll be building a pair of Fi Primer 300B amps (see link to schematic below). Between the power transformer and the output transformer there is a choke rated at 5 H 250ma. Does Magnequest offer a choke suitable for use in this application? If so, which one?
My first choice would be, of course, to use a Magnequest product. The only other choke I have found close to this rating is a Hammond rated at 5 H and 300ma. Would that be suitable if Magnequest does not offer a better choice?
Thanks with your patience with this newbie question. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Cheers,
Bruce

Hi Bruce:I would recommend our custom choke # 04-002. This choke can be supplied for service at 100, 150 or 200 madc. Inductance would range from 10Hy, 7.5hy to 5hy as you go up in dc current. the DCR of this choke is approx 36 ohms.
one thing to be aware of when reviewing designs in the public domain... designers often use "state of the spare parts bin" availability in spec'ing their ironware...
the power supply shown is for a monoblock... with two halves of a 6sn7 and a 300B there is no way you need 250 mils of dc current capacity... and if you notice the power trans itself is not even spec'd for current.
200 mils ought to be more than plentiful current capacity... with a lot of headroom to spare...
