Been doing some research on 10s for a new project that I'm working on. Would like to use them as direct radiators from about 100-600 hertz.Has anyone done direct comparsions between the following drivers:
JBL 2122
JBL 2123
JBL 2012
Eminence Delta 10
P.Audio SN-10MB
EV DL10X
B&C 10NPL64I'm aware that the JBLs would probably be the best performers of the bunch, but the other drivers are easier and cheaper to purchase. Also, I've read a few things on the Altec forum suggesting the 2012 is the best performer of the lot of JBLs. And I think you can get E110 and other frames and have the 2122 soft parts installed in them.
Finding a proaudio 10s to work in this application is rather tough, seems like 12s are the perfered size of speaker for this application. I would give 12s more thought if I knew that I had the space for them.
I am using both the 2122 and the 2123. The 2122 is in my 4344 clones and the 2123's are in my active set-up. Both are really good drivers however 100Hz is pushing them both. They can't do 100Hz sealed. You would have to port them. The the 2122 would be the better choice as it has a more robust low end than the 2123. You can use E110 frames for a 2122 kits. I use mine from 300Hz up to 1.5K with the 2123's

Sort of what I have been finding out on my own.I was recommended the 2134 b/c it was similar to the 2108...and the 2108 is one of my favorite midbasses that I have heard.
They will be going into my car, and I was really hoping cabin gain would help out in the 100-250 region to bring the falling response up some.
I will keep plugging away trying to find some 2122s, but a newer modern driver might be to ticket since they will be easier to find...though won't be a JBL.

I have no experience using or purchasing any 10-inch driver.Once I contemplated a project using a pair of JBL 2123's but never followed through. The 2123 have a lower effective limit of 200hz not the 100hz you were seeking.
"...Finding a proaudio 10s to work in this application is rather tough..."
Not true.
I wouldn't hesitate to include in your list McCauley. Their stuff is precise and bullet-proof. Used some of their 15-inch drivers and was impressed. Expensive nowadays but used ones can be found sometimes on auction sites.
