I'm very interested in listening to this when I have corrected any problems on my end. Thanks for checking and I'll definitely look into my center channel speaker and connection first.
Follow Ups:
RVG gets more credit for his recordings than he should. I'll go out on the limb here. I am a jazzer and have many of his discs, none of which I would honestly consider audiophile demo stuff. And yes, I have bought some of the much anticipated RVGs. Not knocking you Robert88, I just don't get all of the undeserved praise surrounding his recordings. Good luck on this disc. Henderson was awesome. Especially on the McCoy Tyner New York Chesky SACD. WOW! What a quartet. Life is lonely again...
To some of the CDs he was involved in with remastering of which I have many. That is not to say I would consider them audiophile quality. Now I don't have this particular recording on RBCD but I would be willing to bet regardless of listening to that one that this SACD would slaughter it! Now I don't have his rbcd remastered recordings committed to memory per se but I do feel I recall which I consider amongst the better ones for what I own. I'll go back to a few of those but I bet this SACD would trounce most of those even if I just listened in two channel!
All opinions are welcomed and thank you for your viewpoint on his rbcd recordings.
I have compared the original CD and the SACD (stereo layer only), and the main difference is in the mix. On the SACD steroe remix the instruments are better separeted on the sound stage. On the CD, the stereo spread is quite narrow, and too many instruments are mixed to the middle spot.Overall, the sound is ok. It's not an audiophile recording, just average for the time.
Have you heard the RVG remaster of Gene Ammons' Boss Tenor? I want to get it but Steve Hoffman says to get the 1987 issue as it's a flat transfer. Only the 1991 is available though. (Might be the same transfer.)
Leave it to old Steve to tease us here.
