...when the unit came out there were some people who successfully played CD-Rs on the 9000ES, even though the player was not supposed to.Does anyone still manage to play today's CD-R on their 9000ES? I've tried all kinds of brands w/ no luck. Even the Sony Supremas or Kodak 24 kt Gold CD-Rs someone mentioned do not work. The player does take CD-RWs though.
Any opinions?
Follow Ups:
No CD-R's, but it plays CD-RW's. But since it quit playing SACD's, I had to replace it.
but its successor DVP-NS999ES does not read CD-R. The players that do read CD-R are SCD-1 and 777ES. Both of them use the optical pickup that was developed by Sony for DVD-ROM computer drives compatible with CD-R. Later model pickups were designed specifically for players (not for computers), so compatibility with CD-R (which was a hard task to achieve) was dropped.
I have yet to try playing one thru mine. Previous searches on this site have revealed that it is possible to play CD-R's, but possible transport problems seem to await those who play them often. I have kept my previous NAD player around to play my copies and it has no trouble.
I read here about others' success with CD-RWs and tried them. Work like a charm. I've made several copies on these for my dad who also runs a 9000ES and they work on his player as well.

I have had some success with Sony Music CD-R's I can rip them using Dell's sonic program and they play. I had a friend rip one using a audio reality(?) duplicator and it would not play.
It ain't happenin'.She won't play CD-r's.
