In Reply to: Allen, then, how is this: There is no shortage of motors? posted by rich121 on April 13, 2007 at 08:16:13:
The part number you referenced is the motor that drives the loading drawer on the chassis top cover-- not the CD sled/transport. To my knowledge the loading drawer motor is not a point of failure.

Same motor, you just need to swap pulleys...
HiIs that a fact..?
I finally take of the cover and inspect transport on my 777, sled motor is standard Mabuchi RF-300CH.
Why Sony ships RF-500TB-12560 for sled motor replacement, it looks to be electrical quite different..
Draw motor is covered with black plastic housing, looks like RF-500TB-12560, no markings on it..
Deon,
You remember this post right? I am not the only one that ordered this part from Sony (Sony changed the part # from the origional)Rick

Hi,Yes, of course, that is the post that did make me curios, because of RF-500TB-12560 markings on motor, this is standard Mabuchi motor.
However, there is Mabuchi RF-300CH for sled motor in my 777, so I can only conclude that
both of them, Mabuchi RF-300CH or RF-500TB-12560 should work fine.
They are both available from many places, regardless of Sony’s spare-parts stock, what for me is a god thing to now.
Any online vendors for the Mabuchi RF-300CH motor? I still think Stang ordered the wrong motor ass'y, and the RF-500TB is meant for the door and not compatible with the sled... until someone can confirm that the RF-500TB actually works as the sled motor...the spare sled motor I have is also the RF-300 one I think (which was previously discussed back a month or two ago).
I compared both assemblies today & these two motors have very different dimensions, different off-sets between mounting screws, and different off-sets between solder tabs. I have not removed the drawer motor from its rubber jacket, but it looks like it is much too big to fit in the sled motor bracket.
I was told by Sony's Technical person that these were the same motor, so I ordered 2 of them.. looks like I will be returning them!Well... I thought I was giving the right information, as it was what was told to me from Sony...
