Go to the stevehoffman.tv site forums and post there, quite a few guys there are very familiar with the DV-RA1000, I havent' read/heard anyone having problems... just a learning curve.
I am planning on getting the DV-RA1000HD soon.
Good Luck...
Follow Ups:
I got one of the first units from Tascam; Had problems at first, but after firmware updates, I haven't since. Dirty or scratched dvd+rw's will cause problems. I've been using this for a while, if anyone needs any help.
Yes, this is quite frustrating. Some machines have this problem (one of mine did). It needs to be sent back to Tascam and have its drive replaced / serviced. These machines are capable of being quite reliable but many have had problems like this out of the box. Tascam tech support can be a surly bunch but keep trying until you get someone who knows about this.As a short-term fix, performance may improve if you format each disc multiple times (the more formats on each disc the better performance according to Tascam). Also I've had very good luck with Sony DVD+RW media model# DPW47L2. I usually can find it in BestBuy etc
Appreciated.
I will try Sony media.
Did not go through the local importer, who charges 2.5 times what I paid for mine on ebay(nationalmusicsupply Christmas sale). The local importer threatened that he would deny both warrantee and service if I did not buy from him-so I will just have to live with this problem.I have already tried formatting discs three times, and it did not help. There seems to be some kind of strange cycle to the recurrence of the problem:One disc records without problems, then one gives a write error that influences one track only, then the next disc gives a write error 60 that erases everything that has been recorded, even if it is on a no. of tracks.A cycle of repetitive behaviour.Strange, funny and exasperating.
I can live with this,as I am not recording live-just archiving. The sound quality is superb!
Thanks,Raanan
Who knows what you have boughten has been through.. what good is something this hi-tech if you can't get it serviced?
I don't think you saved anything, and you put money into a non-dealer which hurts the market.
The financial consideration was important for me.
The local importer asked for a ridiculous price. He was insulting,in addition. He has a monopoly here and can afford to be insulting.
I decided to take a chance.Even with the bugs that I have to contend with,I can use the machine for the purpose that I bought it for.
When I bought my HHB CDR-800 a few years ago I went through the official channels here-and the machine has required servicing a number of times already.
Hopefully I will be more fortunate with the DVRA1000.It is common knowledge that many DVRA1000 have exhibited various problems.
When it works-it sounds FANTASTIC!!!
