They laid them all off and closed the Service Center that was the only hope Philips ever had in the US, IMO. Tampa worked according to my repair procedure I wrote for them. Before Philips closed them down they’ve made many SACD1000 owners very happy fixing their units.Just like the Furore fiasco, Philips made the executive decision to actually loose more money by "authorizing" your local TV repair shop instead of maintaining their own and highly skilled service centers. Last time I've heard from SACD1000 owner who brought his Philips to an "authorized" TV shop was given $600+ estimate to get the entire digital board replaced that comes with a defective Furore too.
What can I say, it's sad!
Hope you're well!

Jim really was great. As I write this, I am in my office listening to my SACD 1000. I listen to it every day for 6 - 8 hours with a variety of CDs and SACDs. This has been my routine for 3 years now.One thing that gets lost about the Tampa facilty is that they actually cared about their customers. When the facility was closing down, they really pushed to get all of the SACD 1000's fixed that they could. They knew they getting shut down, but they kept their standards very high instead of coasting or getting down about losing their jobs. I hope that Jim landed on his feet somewhere.
My personal unit came back with much better CD sound. There was always a bit of haze on the highs that let some of the details get lost. I ended up buying a Marantz 8260 because it sounded better on CDs. It was easy to compare the 2 and hear the superiority of the Marantz. When the SACD 1000 came back from Tampa it was as good as the Marantz in the highs and details but still had that amazing SACD 1000 bottom end. I don't know what they changed in the CD data path, but it really did pull a veil off the highs.
when I got mine back from Alex (all he did was the chips) I, too, noticed a significant improvement in sound. Some folks thought I was nuts. Thanks for the validation.

As I recall...his name was Jim. I think. A fine fellow to talk too about a huge frustration. I will never ever buy anything made by Philips, I got more support from a pair of 10 year old sox!
I am fine Alex, put a REL sub into the system and it really sounds great. Never even one hiccup from the SACD1000 since you had it in your hands last.
Hope you and your family are happy and healthy.
