I can't believe that they will sell a lot of LP's at $85.00 a pop. I assume that the reason for the stratospheric pricing is because they expect to sell this LP in relatively small numbers - which they will. It does not seem like the best way to launch the company into a new(old) media.I'm with Teresa on this one, Last weekend I bought 15 LP's for $39.00 at a used record store, two of which were unopened. Spending $85 for one isn't going to happen.
...their Eine StraussFest Lp typically goes for close to $150 on ebay, (don't ask me why), to Asian bidders and their Shaw Carmina Burana Lp (yawn), typically goes for much more than that. It will be very interesting to see if a non-collectible re-press sells out at such an absurd price.
is also selling for a ridiculous price. Don't ask me why either. Some people just have too much money. Meanwhile, I'm picking up "played once I don't like this music" jazz and classical LP's at the used record store for pennies. I'll let someone else pay the big bucks. My wife is continually amazed that I can spent a few hundred dollars for two pieces of wire, then brag about how I scored a mint 1958 Kingston Trio Album for $0.50. I'm not sure I understand it myself (grin).
Everyone knows what audiophile LP's cost - about 1/3 of the price they are quoting of theirs. So to introduce a new (old) product line you take a mediocre album, ensure that it is digitally sourced, and charge three times what everyone else is charging for albums that have far more important music.Yep, that makes sense to me.
We agree that there are stupid people with a lot of money out there. I'm just not sure there are enough of them to make this a success for Telarc. It looks like they set things up for failure on purpose.
