I'm the original owner, but it's over 5 years old. So the warranty has expired. It acts like it has no power. No lights--no nothing.
I took the cover off -- first time I ever did this.
Fuse at front left is fine.
I changed power cord and receptacle. No change.
Any other suggestions?
Also, it has a rental DVD inside. Is there a way to manually extract the DVD?
Ironically, I just bought an Oppo DVD player. It arrived one day prior to the 9000 quiting.
Follow Ups:
While we wait for Allen-try this:Press TITLE,CLEAR,POWER buttons in this order with the power of main unit in OFF status. This puts the unit in TEST MODE.Press 1 for Drive Auto adjustment. If you have power, the door should open. You don't necessarily need the video output to your tv to have test mode setting.Let me know if it works.Mike
I've been busy until now.I tried your suggestion, but nothing happens.
Glad you got the dvd out.I shipped mine on Monday and got a return ups notice today that it's on it way back.$145 total-including shipping.Get her fixed and be happy again.
If you do throw it - throw it at me - they are great machines and well worth fixing! You can get the disc out, but I don't have access to the service manual right now to get the exact derects. I'll post how to do it as soon as I get to it.
1. Remove the three hexagon socket bolts from the mechanism deck cover. Remove the cover.
2. Slide the right slider towards the front of the machine and lift the loading assembly.
3. Push the tray assembly forward from either of the two rear wings. You will feel some resistance like gears turning. That's ok.
4. The tray assembly will come through the front slot with the DVD. Remove the DVD.This is an incredible player with the VSE mods. Unbeatable for the price. I saw a level 5 unit sell on Audiogon last week for $1500. I would have bought it for another system had I seen the ad sooner. You can send it the either VSE US rep. They can repair the unit and apply mods for a very reasonable fee.
I replaced the optical pick-up in my unit and ran the calibration programs yesterday (it was still playing CDs but no longer recognized SACDs). Works great now.
Not just two - as we have another up in the Seattle area - address on our site.
I already had the top of the mechanism off, but by following the rest of your directions, it only took me 3 seconds to remove the DVD.Not sure why I didn't slide the slider before.
Thanks.
Allen-would putting it in the test mode or disc calibration possibly get it to open?I have the service manual and may be able to forward to Tommart.
...well before descriptions of test mode etc.Normally it involves some sort of mechical operation - not electronic - and would need to be mechcanical as he says nothing lights up electronically.
Send it to Sony for repair.Flat rate should apply ~ $135.Texas location. They generally swap out bad boards or parts.Re-align everything and get it back to you as good as new.Possibly a bad transformer.Worth repairing.I have one there now.
Have you ever had the satisfaction of throwing something away?If it were me, I would take the entire machine to the DVD rental store and say, your disc is in this, consider it returned.
I've thrown away more expensive articles and not looked back. Life moves on.
Kill two birds with one stone.
Thanks for the advice, but....I love this player.I'll fix it, if I can get it fixed for $200 or so.
I would like to get the rental DVD out before sending it somewhere.
It is a Netflix DVD, so I'm not going to send the unit to Netflix.
LOL, yes, the netflix folks would certainly be shaking their heads at that one :)Chris got it right with his response below..AND..it is a nice machine..I got a lemon myself and life is pretty short, sometimes chucking something is "extra" satisfaction..
Hope it works out well for you. AW really knows his stuff with those players (amongst other things)
If I worked at the DVD rental place where you threw a broken machine at me and told me to retrieve the disc from inside, I'd throw it right back at you.You are very rude, not only for making such a suggestion, but for the callousness of your response to someone else's understandably upsetting problem.
He's polite in giving his advice to wash one's hands of the unit entirely. I took it as more tongue in cheek than a bona fide suggestion. Some of you guys really starch your underware a bit too stiffly.
Loosen up, have a drink, buy a sense of humor.
Believe me, I am doing him a favor. Not rude, but if you think the truth is rude, then so be it.
The kid at the video store could get it out and have something to tinker with. No more worries about a machine that has caused unknown numbers of people headaches, including yours truly. No more shipping costs and nickle and dime nuts and bolts worries.
Everyone would be getting a "favor"
Sorry you don't see it as such, I certainly do.
I hope and wish the monitor would get rid of so many trolls. What a waste.
Listen to audioeydoc; ignore ontrack2. The 9000ES is worth a Sony repair trip.
I've got the 9000es and it's still working wonderfully after 6 years now. Knock wood! :)
