In Reply to: Best SACD's of 2004? What are your thoughts? posted by Dead Head on January 1, 2005 at 06:26:06:
i have bought about 20 sacds this xmas weekend alone, some old, some new.but the best sacd of 2004 that comes to mind, must be nine inch nails' the downward spiral deluxe edition sacd.
a true sonic revelation n must get for all nin fans. i have given up on this album long time ago due to well, digit-itis n have been listening to the fragile. but after getting this, i have rediscovered this album. case in point, reznor's vocals in hurt, full of torment n inflection, even surpasses cash's rendition, which i didnt find in the normal cd.
there is also a bonus, in the 2nd disc, which is also on sacd (originally announced on cd).
the only downside? they could have put better tracks on the 2nd disc, like the entire further down the spiral ep, instead of the demo cuts.
Follow Ups:
It may be as you say,a true sonic revelation n must get for all nin fans ,
but for someone who is not a fan, it's unapproachable, dense, unforgiving, and totally without light or shade. I've never heard Nine Inch Nails before, and bought this disc on the basis of Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt". I was hoping for more songs in that style, but it was not to be. Just noise.
Regards,
Geoff
i can understand why many dont get nin. its dark, bleak n appear unredeeming. but the music is oh so beautiful n reznor's music have shown maturity with fragile, instead of his bleak and destructive music on downward spiral.how can u not be moved by piggy, heresy, hurt, reptile n the rest? doesnt burn makes u wanna dance n destroy all your furniture? or hurt makes u wanna mutilate yourself?
but sonically, hurt on the sacd beats cash's rendition hands down, no?
doesnt burn makes u wanna dance n destroy all your furniture?I have 3 cats that are doing a fine job of that--they don't need anyhelp from me.
your cats dance? how they do that? if their fur sticks out, its more getting agitated n aggro than being enchanted by the sound.
