Since you have had the Philips SACD1000 experience, check out my posting a ways down the page where I posted the email address of the Philips North America CEO and other senior management. I am trying to get an email campaign going directly to the top brass to get some satisfaction/resolution. I thought that since you are a lawyer (and presumably a litigator), you would not be hesitant to jump in and stir the pot.
Follow Ups:
The 333, 555, 595 were all spotted as design defects AFTER I purchased them; or at least no one had mentioned it here.
This is not a negative post either. You have clearly had more problems with SACD players than any ten of us combined. You probably have power that is not coming through consistently at 60 hz and/or 110 volts. This is not an uncommon problem (although you may have a particularly bad case) and you probably need to have it checked out before you burn up something that's more expensive than an SACD player. You also might consider some of the PS audio or other power conditioners. Your system will probably sound a lot better with good power.
I think you will find that your local electric utility tries very hard to maintain 60 Hz output. It is necessary for them to sync their generators within their generating facility and to connect to their generators to the grid system to enable power transfers.Voltage at a residential service entrance is covered by IEEE standards, simply stated it should be 120V RMS +/- 5% per phase. If the voltage is consistently high or low, the utility company is usually responsive to changing transformer taps to provide nominal 120V service (again, per phase).
That said, it may be a good idea to have an electrician survey Duilawyer's system, as it is possible a problem or problems may be contributing to his unusual number of component failures. However, it would be reasonable to expect that if there were a problem with his distribution system that he would be experiencing problems with other connected devices (i.e., VCR, PC, etc).
It may just be that Duilawyer is the unfortunate person at the far end of the normal distribution curve that has gotten a lot of dud players.
