believe it or not. I had been complaining that my CDR-795 showed the same "reliability" as the SACD-1000.Last night I removed the cover to see if I could manually clean the laser. Figured what the Hell. It was DEAD anyway wasn't it? What I found amazed me - one of those little plastic washers that come on spindles of CDs.
I must have put it in on top of a disc by accident and had it fall on or near the laser interfering with it. I immediately slid the cover on and did a 4x CD copy - played back just fine on the SACD-1000. So - I popped another in at 1x as I was retiring for the night.
Played fine on the 1000 this AM.
What are the chances of THAT happening twice??

Hey, don't feel too bad. Years ago in my office, the IBM Selectric typewriter repairman told us he once extracated a banana from one of them--not a peel, mind you, but an entire banana.
I once talked to a dr. who had a similar story. I stopped him before he got into the details.....
People sure knew how to have fun back then when we had typewriters :)Cheers
