...ahhh DQ-10s. Memories of the speakers that first acquanted me with high end audio.According to the current AudioGon postings, I'd say they're worth between $275 and $350.
$300 seems like a good number.
Follow Ups:
I sold them. They made a matching sub that needed an amp, and either the passive x-over DX-MX1 or active DQ-LP1. The DQ-LP1 is still sought after. The early ones were not mirror image. Later ones were. They retailed for $1000. Subs extra. they were POWER SUCKERS and not super dynamic even if you had power. They made a line called Monitor series....and that's what I had in my house cause I dug the bass...but years later realize how boxy they sounded. But they were without a doubt THE coolest speakers with the grills off in that period. The drivers were made by Magnat and perfect machining. The gleemed. The cabinets were Nextel. And fuzzy front baffle.
Man...come home with my date, turn up some Gino Vanelli, and you were happenin'
...I walked into the Federated Store in Huntington Beach in about 1977 to hear the new Ohm F loudspeakers.Next to them were DQ-10s playing some Latin percussion music. The sound was coming from behind and in-between the speakers with the instruments suspended there in space. I'd never heard anything like it before. I had to have them.
I ended up bi-amping them with Quatre Gain Cells, buying the first DQ-LP1 electronic crossover Havens and Hardesty (yes, Richard Hardesty's old store) got in along with a pair of Dahlquist subs.
They rocked.
HI,
I had the same setup with dual DW-1's in an active cross over biamped configuration. While the subs did not go the lowest I thought they offered qualities that were (are) rare in the world of sub's. Namely, their response was linear (acoustic suspension tuning) down to cut off. This made them fairly easy to integrate with bass shy speakers like electrostatic panels. You sure are right about being power hungry but that's the price of acoustic suspension. The DW-1's stayed in my system until they were finally replaced in the late 1980's with the Kinnergetics SW-800 subs that performed beautifully with my Martin Logan CLS IIA's. This setup is with me today and is still a heart stopper.
