... take the MTR up to Mong Kok Station... get off at exit D3... walk all the way down Sai Yeung Choi Street South... Towards the very end (when you're almost upon Dundas Street) on the left is a skinny building labled as "2T Gran Castle"... Take the lift right up to the 21st floor... and work your way down floor-by-floor.21 floors of highend new and 2nd hand gear. You'll see virtually every highend brand you can think of.
Enjoy :)
Follow Ups:
Excellent Steve - thanks. This was exactly the thing I was looking for. Something that would be as cool as doing all of the other tourist-in-the-streets stuff with my Leica that I know I will be doing.
.
I would spend some time looking around the "Lady Market" for all the typical souvenir stuff. Also, take a Star Ferry across to the Kowloon side so you can take another Star Ferry back again to take a few snaps. Then go up the Peak on the funicular railway to take some more snaps.
what about buying LP and SACD/CD's? or DVD?
... for SACDs/CDs/DVDs... one of the best places would be HVM at Central on Hong Kong island. Take the MTR to Central and get out any exit that points to "Central Building"... HVM's the flagship shop on the 2nd floor... or you can get to HVM from "the Landmark" building which is a highend shopping mall (Versace, Gucci, you-name-it). That HVM has a huge CD and DVD collection, the SACDs collection is amongst the Classical room-within-a-room.... for LPs, theres a bunch of places to scrounge around for used and new LPs. Among the better ones are shops at Eu Bank Plaza which is along a small alley-like road call "Chiu Lung"... take the MTR to Central, get off at any exit that leads you to "Queens Road Central"... walk up along Queens Road towards "The Centre" building (see map URL below), Chiu Lung is one of those small roads on your right as you walk along Queens Road Central. Can't quite remember the floors, ask the security guard on the ground floor, he'l probably tell you.
Have fun hunting :)
and she has a nephew who is a cellist (good amateur, 1st chair in local semi pro orchestra there). Thanks again.
