is it possible to connhect a pair of headphones directly into the preouts of a preamp? i need a set of phones in my workout rm to use on a bicycle windtrainer. thanks

PAT-5 headphone jack requires power amp routed through preamp for speaker switching...
IF you have a low impedance preamp, and a high impedance headphone, you can do it. Grados with their 32 ohm impedance will usually not work. Many pro designs which have a 600 ohm impedance work very well.
I've run Sennheisera with a CJ tube preamp, and the resulting sound is far superior to many headphonme amps and some fairly costly ones at that. The impedance match is rather iffy and ultimate volume is limited, but the sound was excellent.
It worked OK - not great, but not too horrible either.
I don't think it will work. Headphones need some current (power) to drive them. I have an old dyna pat 5 that has its own headphone out...good luck. (time to buy an ipod??)
