Right up front, I want to state I am not taking sides in this matter, as I have never had anything to do with Welborne Labs.
That being said:
I guess I am confused as to what you want The Bored to do.Do you want them to kick Welborne Labs off A.A.?
To what purpose?
That will hardly make them provide better customer service, in fact, in would probably have the opposite effect.Do you want them to somehow intervene, and force Welborne Labs to provide better customer service?
How would you suggest they do that?
The only recouse they would have would be to kick them off A.A.
(Which of course results in A.A. losing money from said sponsership.)You gave two statements of fact:
No.1 THE BORED receive revenue from Welborne for the sponsorship.
(Okay, so Welborne Labs is basically buying ad space.)No. 2 Welborne receives new customers due to the AA links
(Yes, this is the normal consequence of buying ad space in the first place.)My point of view is that A.A. is both a business (hence the reason they sell ad space), as well as a forum for us Audiophiles to voice our concerns, ideas, and generally discuss all things related to audio. Note that the ad money provides the income to allow us to have this forum. Without that ad money, they would eventually be forced to charge us to post here. (Either that or they would charge us for the classifieds, something which I think they should do in any case, but that is another matter.)
Personally, I commend The Bored for allowing this type of discussion to continue.
It obviously is hurting Welborne Labs reputation, which in turn will either force Welborne Labs to provide better customer service, or their business will start to suffer enough to force them to go out of business.
Honestly, can you imagine Audiogon allowing this to happen?
Not in a million years!
They HEAVILY censor the posts there.
(Don't beleive me? Post the same type of criticism about Stereophile magazine there, (Stereophile is one of their big sponsers) and, good luck in ever having it see the light of day!)
Hell, Stereophile keeps a healthy presence here on Audiogon just to try to keep their name free of criticism. You wanted views, well this was mine.
My two cents worth anyway.PS Hey Kirbyt!
I hope you get the proper customer service from Welborne Labs, SOON!
Good Luck!
Follow Ups:
Look, I have had absolutely nothing to do with Welborne and probably never will. That being said (and I have not even read this whole thread), it appears that Welborne is not providing much in the way of customer service. It appears, in fact, that their total lack of customer service is not an isolated incident and that posters complaining of such are pretty reasonable people who have calmly documented their experience (as opposed to nutcases on a rant). In light of this, legitimizing Welborne by continuing to accept their sponsorship (which is in fact a form of advertising) would appear to be a disservice to uninformed or unsuspecting members (who have not read this thread) who would order from Welborne thinking that their sponsorship was indicative of quality service.
and who also do not know about these threads? My guess would be not many.
Let the Asylum continue to take their money; let these threads continue to expose poor customer service.
If you order (and just for the sake of argument let's say), a Sony CD player, which you saw advertised in Stereophile, and that player breaks down, and Sony refuses to honor the warranty for whatever reason, would you, upon notificiation to Stereophile the circumstances of this defective product and Sony' lack of customer service, expect Stereophile to decline Sony's advertising from that point on?
Honestly?!
Yeah, I didn't think so.
(BTW, That laughing you hear in the background? That's John Atkinson, the editor for Stereophile, rolling around on the floor and laughing his ass off at the mere thought of that!)
It ain't going happen, and neither should it.
Advertising is just that, advertising.
It is not an endorsement.
If someone is naive enough to think one equals the other, that is their problem, and not the publication, or in our case, a website forum.
Well, ok, you've taken it "a step further". Assuming the Sony player worked when you got it, or you got it in the first place, that seems to be a level of service far and beyond what Welborne is offering to many of his customers. I would argue that a little common sense is in order, but we clearly do not see the issue in the same way.
if any and whatever they might be, are Welborne's issues. Audio Asylum is supposed to be some sort of audio cop? Heaven forbid. We can see how keystone cop-like many members can be armed only with a keyboard.
