.....writing a review about this product is easy.it is superbly engineered and constructed and performs as advertised.this review will detail the new version of alan kafton's World Power 'Power wing'.........my first experience with the 'wing' began about a year ago with alan's initial product that used double cryo'd hubble outlets.it was,by far,the best power conditioner i had used in my system.i had previously used richard gray..ps audio..and shunyata conditioners all with varying degrees of improvement in the sound.the 'wing' significantly improved on what their best efforts were.when alan contacted me and said he was upgrading the 'wing' with the oyaide outlets i could not wait to have mine upgraded.i already had installed 2 of the 'xxx' outlets in my dedicated 20 amp circuit and new what a significant difference they made when i plugged the 'wing' and my amp into them.
.....fast forward a few months. after talking with alan about what combination of oyaide outlets,in the 'Power Wing',might be best for my listening preferences ( i chose 4-xxx and 2-dx outlets )i have been using the new version for about 4-5 weeks.what an improvement!!!the noise floor is so silent it is spooky.soundstaging has improved.vocals have become more life-like.dynamics have improved.there is an increased sense of musical nuances and a closer relationship with the music.it has really been fun trying the different combinations of outlet options with my 4 powercords in fine tuning the sound to my specific liking.
.....for those of you that have not read the superb review of this product by danny kaey on the positive-feedback website it makes better reading then this but the bottom line is the same.this passive,6-outlet AC filtration device is a superbly engineered and constructed piece of audio gear that delivers on its' promise.alan...i think..allows in home demos for those interested.this product will improve anyone's system's sound.
| Product Weakness: | may be expensive for some but probably competes with comparable products costing much more |
| Product Strengths: | superb construction and engineering from the creator of the audio dharma cable cooker...ability to customize the 'wing' with ones'choice of the oyaide outlets...delivers on its'promise |

I'm not saying it doesn't work... most power strips do! But $2650!? I suppose if you're into magic mega buck power cords, whats another couple grand for a power strip, right? I want mine gold plated and jewel studded please.Snake oil warnings.. All are easy to make and easy to start up a business making 'em.
1) Mega buck power cords
2) Mega buck interconnects and speaker cables
3) And now Mega buck power strips!I suppose we'll see a glut of super EXPENSIVE garage built power strips soon just like we see in the audiophile cables business. Hang on to your wallets, guys!

I'd expect power regeneration.

For that kind of money you can get a very nice regenerative unit and know that you're getting your money's worth.

For that kind of money you can get a very nice regenerative unit and know that you're getting your money's worth.Or not. That technology does not guarantee the highest performance....but you *are* buying a lot of parts and a heavy chassis. If that floats your boat....
![]()
....they do different things. Firstly, regeneration requires amplification, and a lot of circuitry to do that correctly. Most commercial designs that perform that function are rather inefficient, and produce a lot of heat. Mine doesn't. Secondly, the designers of regeneration circuits are primarily concerned with the 60Hz signal itself....many invariably utilize transformers, and not all amplifiers enjoy seeing another transformer in front of it. My design, while addressing 60Hz (and the noise contaminants on the line) in a much more passive way (and field effect as well), is mostly concerned with VHF and UHF noise that is far more pervasive in our systems. Not every solution is perfect for one's particular environment, regardless of the theory, advertising or propaganda....this because of the quality (or lack thereof) of power delivery. It is always best to try first, compare with other designs, and find what works best in *your* setup....there is no substitute.
Expensive is relative to your disposable income. I consider this product a bit more reasonable than the "H" models of another cable manufacturer. Those, especially the simpler models, appear to be nothing more than a fancy enclosed set of receptacles using silver buss bars and a cap across each receptable. Whoopee...

"Expensive is relative to your disposable income."True but ask anyone with a good amount of "disposable income" and they'll probably tell you they didn't acquire it by disposing of it. ;-)

Or as I'm fond of saying, it's not how much you make per-hour; it's how you come out after your taxes are done.Ex: two co-workers bemoaning Comcast cable TV fees today. One mentioned $49/mo for basic. I butted in, and said "Cost it out for 1 year and then 5 years." Click-click-click on the calculator. " $3000 every 5 years", said I (Mr rabbit ears/Godar FM-2).
You could have heard a pin drop.
....per your post above, with his earnings, David Letterman could certainly afford Accuphase gear.
"Abe already owns it.."

Awwww, Abe....if it were "only" just a power strip, and not a completely hand-fabricated, computer-modeled, purpose-built device, I wouldn't charge this kind of coin of the realm. Doing this stuff costs real money. Go to your local metal fabricator and start the custom process....maybe you'll see the light. Btw....the gold-plating on the Oyaide outlets is included at no extra charge. But jewel-studded? That would be gaudy....but feel free to do that on your own design.
> > for those of you that have not read the superb review of this

> > better reading then thisIsn't that the place people send their rocks, marbles and other inert items in order to create a hubris with a positive review? You know the kind of stuff even the selectively objective majors wouldn't risk their credibility by reviewing. Whoopie we should all be impressed.
Thanks for the review - at least the product has one credible supporter.
Scope read outs of waveform effects, blind test data, cut away view so you know what you are buying, that kind of stuff?

Some audiophiles and sly vendors have decided to promote their own new Scientific Method. The “proof” and “test” parts have been abandoned keeping only that initial emotional “observation” part.
![]()
Sorry, no....I'm not Boeing or Lockheed.
![]()
FWIW. No response needed, just wanted to know if there was any hard info.
The reviewer noted that it was well engineered so I figured that he must have some reason to make that comment outside of what it looks like.
![]()
....was intended to be tongue-in-cheek. There is quite a bit of design information on my webpage for the Wing, and while I don't disclose the exact parts compliment, I do offer individual auditionee's a detailed overview of the design elements and general construction. There is no foo-foo dust used, nor arcane technology requiring a special chant before use, but time-tested and engineered power line solutions. It is the combination of these solutions, computer-modeled and optimized, that distinguishes the design from others.A few years ago, I was very interested in specific testing for the production prototype, only to be told by my consulting engineer that "the fees would be prohibitive". I chose to go with performance-testing and auditioning in individual systems. I *only* offer the Wing on an audition basis, so there is no financial risk whatsoever. If it doesn't perform in a manner completely satisfying to the potential customer (and in direct comparison with other highly-regarded units), then no sale is made.
Didn't know that part.
"Thanks for your understanding."
Happy listening!

...I too wouldn’t want my customers demanding independent proof that my incredible and expensive products actually do what I claim.

You have a Power Wing with Oyaide outlets, which are supposed to be higher-rez than the Hubbells. We are jealous and envious of you!Ours have the Hubbell 8300s. I have one with Oyaide XXXes on order. But anyway, the PW 8300 is a valuable tool for me and my colleagues. I just feel that with the PW 8300, I can more easily hear what the powercords and gear are doing. Other powerline conditioners seem to twist and mold the sound here, there, and everywhere.
Indeed, the PW 8300 has been critical in helping us evaluate the Cary CD 303/300 and the myriad tubes we've rolled in it. With the PW 8300, the differences between tubes are unambiguous.
We also appreciate that the PW 8300, regardless of where we've taken it, performs consistently. It shows no bias to the $100 gear we've thrown at it, or the $10,000 gear we've lashed up. Unlike some other PLCs, the PW does not make noise or give off heat.
But, there's the subject of getting a Wing in another Corian color. Let's spare Alan, and not open that can of worms :-)

Yes, Lummy....let's please spare Alan. I'm sick with the post-CES flu. As of last Thursday, I thought I was safe....not. But I can't inhale Corian dust in this condition. :--)
![]()
Corian dust (especially of the Everest variety), the smoke in Vegas hotels, yeah right :-)BTW, the Power Wings appear in many CES/THE show reports. Only the Finite Elemente racks appear more frequently. With so many Wings at the shows, no wonder you gotta make a new batch. Your poor Cable Cooker must be working overtime.

No Corian dust while I can't breathe too well. :--)BTW, the Power Wings appear in many CES/THE show reports. Only the Finite Elemente racks appear more frequently. With so many Wings at the shows, no wonder you gotta make a new batch. Your poor Cable Cooker must be working overtime.
I was most fortunate having such great coverage....so many manufacturers get overlooked unintentionally (these shows can be a madhouse), and some reviewers & writers only report what specifically interests them. And most reviewers and writers wholly ignore what they consider "accessories"....and that includes cabling and line conditioning. The PFO crew are certainly the exception, and I thank them profusely. Too many cable manufacturers (unless the room is sponsored by a particular cable company), never even get a mention. So again, I was most fortunate.
I heard an anecdote via Joe Cohen of PranaWire, describing his conversation with Jonathan Halpern of Tone Imports (the very fine Shindo, Auditorium, etc.). Jonathan had some reviewers in his room at the St. Tropez this year, and all they could comment on were the speakers (the terrific DeVore Super 8's). He told Joe after this incident that he wished he had briefly disconnected some cabling, then asked the reviewers "how do you like the system now?"
> > Too many cable manufacturers (unless the room is sponsored by a particular cable company), never even get a mention. So true ... After reading about my favorite room at RMAF, Joe sent me a
gently Email pointing out that the cables in this room were compliments
of Prana Wire. Since he's had a hand in a number of excellent sounding
exhibits over the years, I was happy to give him his due. "Cable guys
never get no satisfaction. So here's a cheers to Joe and his mighty prana."
æNormal is just a setting on my dryer.

Joe has been an equal participant in all the award-winning and show-winning rooms with DeHavilland for the past 3 years. Their rooms have consistently had great sound at CES, Stereophile, and Rocky Mountain. Unfortunately, too many writers and reviewers end up referring to the room as "the DeHavilland room", and have disregarded one of the principal ingredients for the great sound....the hand-fabricated cabling. Without it, there would be NO sound, and little to judge other than visual aesthetics.Joe now asks each reviewer to carefully list each of the participants, and all the componentry, including the specific cabling used....it's only fair. When Joe and I shared our room with Terry Cain and Josh Stippich (at CES 2003), it was understandable that people went completely ga-ga over Josh's amps. They are the bomb. But again, even though I provided a detailed list for visitors of each and every component (including 2 Power Wings) and each run of cabling, Joe and I were pretty much ignored in the overall reporting (and our products were in Terry's main room as well). There were two exceptions....Dave Clark and Greg Weaver....and we are still appreciative for their kind words.
