>>So there's absolutely no question - the DVD-A is *the* recording to get. Forget about the SA-CD. <<You're saying this even though Alan Parsons himself said the quad mix is substandard?
Follow Ups:
True that Parson would have loved to have spent more time on it but it's not that the mix is substandard. Some songs sound better to my ears on how the music is presented on the Parson mix than the Guthrie mix and then there are songs on the Guthrie mix that I prefer. That said, I prefer the over all tonality on the DVD-A . Simply killer.....
Click on the link I have provided .Read it , and weep !!!!!
LOL
Then , for more criticism by Alan Parsons of the Guthrie 5.1 mix , and Guthrie's mistakes , go to :

Click on the link I have provided , to read a quote , that I have previously posted , from Alan Parsons, from Mix magazine. This is what Parsons had to say about his quad mix.I don't need to tell you to read it and weep , sad DudDisc cheerleader , because you are already weeping.
LOL
Beg and Grovel Boy , I enjoyed laughing at you , as you begged your friend Christine Tham , in this thread , to choose the SACD version of DSOTM as her favorite .In the 2003 thread that I linked in my previous post , you will see that Christine Tham agreed with me , when I stated that the Alan Parsons Quadraphonic mix of DSOTM was spectacular , and that it was better than the Guthrie 5.1 mix .
So , I was not surprised when Christine rejected you , and humiliated you , after you humiliated yourself with your beg and grovel routine , as she chose the DVD-A version of DSOTM as her favorite .

P.S . With regards to my happiness : I know that the fact DualDisc is slaughtering your beloved SACD , is killing you. ... That makes me extremely happy .
LOL
P.P.S. I predict that you will continue to be posting more of your ocean of tears in your followup posts , if not in this thread then other ones , because that is ALL you are capable of !!!!!
my Dad had a quad system in the 70s, so as far as i'm concerned this is the definitive mix, regardless of what pink floyd themselves may think.Of course the mix is not perfect - if you inspect it using an audio editor you can see it's done in a hurry, and the balances of the various tracks/parts do not correspond to the stereo version. The high frequencies also don't "sing out" as well - certainly the SA-CD 5.1 mix with restored tapes is superior in this regard.
But there are many things that i prefer in the quad mix than in the original stereo mix or the new m-ch mix by James Guthrie.
And this new DVD-A basically delivers a very well mastered version on the quad mix. Yay!
