can you please post your thoughts once you get the system going??Have you thought also about having your 9000ES modded at all??
I am curious what the advantages would be by going with the 9000 as a transport and acquiring a good DAC, - if one could achieve the a comparable sound to a Wadia 861 or a Levinson 390s or a Moon Eclipse and get the added benefit of SACD and DVD....
Follow Ups:
The first that comes to my mind id the price...
I bought the DAC64 for US$2000 and none of the ones you mention cost less than the double or 3 times. The second is that I have demo'ed 3 or 4 integrated CDPs in the $US3000-5000 and my existent Sony with the Chord, wiped them all.
This thread is bang on since I'm going through a similar decision process - do I get a great DAC for my Sony SCD-777ES or go to a Wadia, BAT, Levinson for redbook? The Chord DAC64 is certainly a possibilty.Out of curiosity what were the integrated players you auditioned in the $3500 price range? I've heard the Arcams, Linn Ikemi, Naim CDX2, Naim CD5, Levinson 390s, Wadia 301 and 861. My current preference for integrated CD players is a Wadia 861 or Levinson 390s. I will also try and hear the BAT VK D5SE soon.
I have listened to Metronome T1-i, Gamut CD1, CEC TL1x/DX51 (my 2nd favorite) and Accustic Arts Drive1/DAC1.The ML390 and the Wadia 861 in Europe cost twice the others I have mentioned above. So for me....not an option :-(((
Thanks for the information and the very best of luck. Please let us know what digital i/c you end up with and how it works out for you.
