What the hell lets respond to this...
I use a 1k resistor loaded pot.
EVS makes a 1k pot that can work with your amps.
You will need a source of 50 or 75 ohms output, be care full with that, mainly no tube DACs.
Reimyo and EAD work fine.
With 0.5 volts input sensitivity, a 2 volts source will do fine. You can order the EVS 1k pots with 30 day money back...

No conection to EVS, I like their web page and love my shunt resistor passive preamp, I had TVC but like reistors better...
I am sure they can answer all your questions! What speakers do you have?

Please excuse me, do you mean a 1K log pot wired in the usual way ?
My present speakers are small and old Tannoy DC100.
I like them.Thanks and regards,
Not really, a log pot can work but sometimes a very small movement can jump the volume too high, these are Stepped Attenuators with 24 steps with a fixed resistor each step, that way you can adjust the volume perfectly step by step and match between the 2 amps so balance will be right, with no jumps in volume.Maybe in an easier set-up or once you know the values needed for your setup you can use a log pot, I wouldnt adventure into that just yet, and resistor loaded stepped attenuators sound much better!
Thanks again.
After posting this same question on the right AMPs-PREAMPs forum I got a lot of negative comments on the passive solution for 5K power amps.
Nevertheless I will try some cheap experiment with low resistance pots.
