i had a CAPITOLE 24/192 mkII , not even the SE version during 2 years , and replace it with a AUDIO AERO PRIMA DAC 24/192 not as good as CDP but a miles away from the aaltman attraction , this ugly piece of wood sounds muddy , not dynamic, small soundstage , some call it natural and analog .... i sold it after two weeks.. and buy a LESSLOSS Dac 2004 instead so much better in every way .. ( batterry power suplly dac too..)if it can help you not to loose your money like me..

don't have the ack dack , but had an AUDIO aero prima dac 24/192 to compare with..
audio aero : dynamic, extended treeble, largest image, a little brightness (4700$)
attraction dac: deep image, low level details, tight and deep bass, natural sounding,
a little roll off in the treeble, (1300$)
even if my attraction dac is not fully broken , i can say that it is very different sounding
than my audio aero perhaps is it oversampling vs nonos dac ? i don't know
for the moment i can't tell you what is the one i prefer, audio aero is more on the digital side and attraction in the vinyl side...
hI gordan , What happen you ask me ? it's simple a listening session against a LESSLOSS Dac 2004 , same analog sound as the aaltman but with the transparancy, dynamic and huge soundstage of the audioaero , you can ask Mike smith at 6moonaudio , he has both and now use the LESSLOSS ... i have sold mine to him and i am now on the dark side of the force in using a totally DIY Dac based on battery power supply and a moded PASSLABS D1 digital output stage.. another story..)
i don't want to say this or these are craps , but if i will save the money ( buying and selling used with the lost of shipment fees..) of some 'Music lovers' , i will be happy..
the LESSLOSS Dac is not the perfect dac too ( nobody's perfect ..) in slave mode it sounds just a little better than the attraction Dac but in master mode it 's another story...
impressive. i am trying to get the same result with an external superclock feeding a moded aiprort express into my moded PASS D1 , i'm still working on it..
lessloss in slave mode costs 2000E. in master version double that.attraction is around 1000E plus battery.
even these days, long time since it's out of production, D1 is very expensive (not sure if i've ever seen one for under $2000)....
but if talk about final frontiers of digital i can absolutely accept there must be better than altmann's.
http://www.penna-media.hu/altmnn/index.htmHe is also here on AA, Endust 4237
He feeds the DAC with an external clock from his ADC via USB-SPDIF converter.
Yes, true.
Works better, more musical (for me at least) than any other high-end DAC for 10-15 times the Altmann's cost (Audio Note, Theta, Accuphase, dCS (even when it is used with its external clock generator), etc I have tried).
the poster above mentioned some DACs when used in master mode are killing altmann.the real comparison would be between 2 DACs using the same mode.
would it be correct to compare a DAC in master mode with altmann DAC reclocked from external mode? can we assume it is a kind of similar operation?
