Okay I've moved this to the digital forum. Regarding the new entry level DAC.I'm sure they're worth it -- after all I'm the guy who thinks the 3.1 one box player is the best digital system I've heard (and I've heard the top Linn, YBA, Mark Levinsons, EAD and Theta (the last two a few years ago though) among others...played after more "normal" designs it's abundantly clear to me that "COMPARATIVELY" AN Digital is dirt cheap when looking at the price tags of the LINN.
How much is the .75m connecting length? Also I read that some of the older DACs don;t work with many cd players input impedence or some such techie thing. My Cambridge Audio is basically the Disc Magic transport(slow drawer Teac) which was said to be pretty good back in the day. It's hard to get back info on older no longer sold units but I found a few -- a DAC might be just the thing for it... http://www.innerear.on.ca/economist/cd6.html

Follow Ups:
The cable isn;t as pricey as I thought -- My amp is the OTO phono SE so that side of the connection won;t be a problem -- the Cambridge should be fine...now the question is how close is the NEW DAC 1 to the old one box CD 3.1??Also do you know if Audio Note is planning a one box player again?
Sorry RGA, I forgot that I asked you to move it here! Duh.As Budrew said, any RCA-RCA interconnect can be used, but the quality is critical as this sets the upper limit for signal from there on down the chain.
At minimum, I'd suggest a .75m single run of AN-S, the new entry-level silver IC, which would cost $85. How much farther you take it depends on what the other components are.
Yes, Audio Note's 12AU7 and 6111WA-based DAC's want a minimum of 30k input impedance in the preamp input they feed. With the 6922-based DACs that sinks to 10k, and the transformer-coupled DACs will drive any load you come up with. Thus, with the current DAC line-up there really isn't anything to worry about.
RGA, You can use any RCA cable as your "digital" cable between the transport and DAC. Obviously the better the cable the better the sound (in most cases). The transport will also effect the sound and some single-box CD players have poorly designed digital outs.In my view the AN DACs are oustanding. There are CD players/DACs that are more dynamic or more transparent, but the AN DACs have an overall musicality that is fluid and very natural sounding. Many CD players sound "digital" to my ears, but the AN DAC is smooth and fine. I think the DACs are one of Audio Note's strongest product lines, and that's saying something.
They are expensive but there have been some very favorable comments about the new 1.x DACs. There are other brands out there that follow the same design concept (filterless zero sampling), but I've not heard any of these except for the Wavelength Audio Cosine which I use in my headphone system. (I prefer the AN DAC in my main system and the WA DAC in my headphone system because it's a bit more laid back.)
