I want to modernize my digital front-end and have been looking at the following players in my price range. I would say that approximately 85% of my listening is to acoustic jazz.My current top contenders are . . .
Audio Aero Prima 24/196
Cary 303/200
Meridian 588/508.24 (used)
Meridian G07
Naim CD5/5i/5xAny thoughts on how these machines stack-up would be greatly appreciated as would other machines I might not be thinking of. I'm fairly sure that I want a one-box machine and, due to resale considerations, modded units aren't high on my list either.

I hear the Jolida JD 100A is a great CDP....esp for the price
I had the 303/100 and a 303/200 (which I just sold), and I think the 306/200 is a better buy than either. Excellent for all acoustic music.I always liked the 508.24, but I haven't heard one in a couple years.
Another vote for the Cary. I recently purchased a used Cary 306 (which pre-dated the Cary 306-200 and is sometimes referred to as the 306-100). It is by far and away the most satisfying audio equipment purchase I have made to date. I spend a lot more time lately just listening to music and not analyzing my system trying to determine what to do to make it sound better.
You'll find these used for maybe just a bit over $2k but well worth it. My second choice would be the vacuum tube Cary 308-T. They show up used now and then but not too often.
awesome 2K player. Highly recommended.
