I've seen some pictures of the EPS-3 signature with male plug and IEC terminations that look to be Furutech (and a post from Duster recently suggested the same). These are round bodied "standard" looking terminations. However, I think I've also seen some that have square-bodied terminations that look to be Wattgates(?). These seem to be the same square bodied ones that are used on the EPS-2 signature. My question is this: did Elrod switch to the Furutech terminations for the EPS-3S, or have they always used these? If there was a switch, which is the newest incarnation, and can anyone provide info on the sonic differences?
Thanks.

Hi LarBO,Regarding which make is which, and what was replaced...
As shown in the photo, the EPS-3's square-bodied (clamshell type, a.k.a. Valise) AC connectors look to be gold plated Furutech FI-15 series AC connectors.
The round-bodied "standard" looking terminations that you mention are perhaps Marinco AC connectors, since Elrod seems to have replaced the Furutech's with Marinco's for the newer version EPS power cords:
An article mentions...

"Update: Since the Furutech components that David Elrod has used in his power cords are no longer available in non-cryoed configurations, he has begun using Marinco IECs and plugs. He feels this maintains his preferred sound signatures across his lines."

(see link to full article below)
Why David Elrod would prefer a non-cryo'd Marinco over a cryo'd Furutech seems odd to me. Maybe a strong opinion against cryo treatment? I dunno... Marinco AC connectors sound very different than Furutech FI-15 AC connectors (cryo'd or not). And why mundane Marinco AC connectors would be chosen over Audio Grade Wattgate AC connectors also seems peculiar... just my 2 cents :-)
Cheers, Duster
"Why David Elrod would prefer a non-cryo'd Marinco over a cryo'd Furutech seems odd to me."Odd as hell to me as well. When I switched from Marinco to Oyaide, the musical differences between the 2 were not even close. The Marinco's have a monotonous signature about them whereas the Oyaides are way more "musical" BUT it could be some kinda synergy with the Elrod's that are benign to us.

PS....I have alot of Marinco AC male plugs gathering dust at the moment if that says anything.
I appreciate you solving my Furutech vs. Wattgate confusion. It seems the switch to the Marinco plugs was not based on better performance necessarily, but on parts availability. "Different" is not necessarily "better", so I wonder how the supposed Marinco terminated EPS cords compare with the likely Furutech ones. Anyone got experience they're willing to share?
Again, I appreciate the help here Duster.
