Definitely consider a glass toslink. I found a great improvement in sonics over a Monster interlink (plastic) toslink. You can find them cheap on eBay (see link below).(Others have recommended better brands like VDH Octocoupler, which may be beyond your pricepoint.)

Well, I picked up one of the glass toslinks. I listened extensively to a CD tonight, switching between coax and optical. Honestly, I could not discern any difference at all. Glad it didn't cost a whole lot.Perhaps, I might find a difference with a cheapo optical cable.
I have not found the cheap glass toslinks to be better; to the contrary. My digital front-end sounds better with toslink than with coax. A few years ago I was looking into upgrading my monster "sucks" lightspeed 200 with a glass toslink. So I paid for a SonicWave and a Sound Professional. THe SonicWave was a clear degradation; the Sound Professional was not as good as coax. So since then, The Monster remains in the system! I believe that the glass toslink are potentially better than plastic fibers, but the glass filaments in these cheap products are fractured all along. I looked at my sonicwave lense with a light going through and you can see dark spots. With the monster, the lense looks like a high quality illuminated LED. I have not found something that sounds better than the lightspeed. I have not seen multi-filaments plastic optical cables yet but I imaging that could be an improvement over monofilament types.
Just ordered one to check it out compared to my cheapo coaxial cable. I thought I had heard about 5 years ago that coaxial was better than optical. We shall see.
Do Monstor or Sony make glass toslink? Are they good?
Belkin makes a glass toslink.. www.pureav.com
Haven't tried them, but if the PureAv glass toslink is anywhere close to the PureAv Silver Series RCA interconnects or S-Video cable (both of which I have), I'd grab them.

I have tried only Monster Interlink (plastic) Toslink, which was beat by the eBay glass toslink. Do a search on this forum for high end glass toslink recommendations.

Some people recommend Audioquest OptiLink-A to me. Since my budget is limited, I prone to consider this cable. Yet I just want to make sure this OptiLink-A is OK to work with Stello DAC and a Marantz CDP.
