I would like to replace the stock power cords on the following equipment: 1) a Consonance Droplet CDP (which I haven't yet received, so perhaps I'm jumping the gun here - does it need an after-market PC?)
2)an Audio aero Prima DAC.My budget is relatively small - maybe $400-$500 for each cable. Used cables are fine too.
Are there cables in this price range that are recommended for these components?
Holly
Follow Ups:
I tried Synergistic, PS Audio, Nordost and Zu. The Nordost Shiva had a profound effect on my Arcam cdp.
I compared the Black Sand Violet to the VH Audio Flavor 4 and the Flavor 4 were significantly better. They had better tone, soundstaging, richer detail, dynamics (and cheaper to boot). The Black Sand just didn't portray the tonal or timbral character of the music. I thought it had a synthetic sound. A friend and I listened on two tube-based systems and agreed that the Flavor 4s were more involving. I was very surprised since I've really not heard anything negative about the violets. I took advantage of John's return policy and he said mine was the first return in 2006 so they obviously sound great in many systems. Besides, John's a great person to deal with. But then again, so is Chris.
I certainly hope that the cords sound good in my system, too. I'm sorry they didn't work out for you. I actually purchased a VH Audio Flavor 4 power cord yesterday so I will get to experience that cable, too.
I have not tried power cords other than the Shunyata King Cobra, Ensemble, Kimber PK14, Cardas Quadlink. I'm very happy with the TG SLVR's on my Burmester and Zanden combo, and I'm keeping them there!
k works empowered - $275,
zu mother - $399,
vh audio flavor 4 - depends on the plugs, can be DIYed to save money.

Have used many aftermarket power cords before and finally settled on the Siltech SPX-20 for my amp combo and cd player. They do what they're supposed to do without introducing any noticeable character of their own and they dont mess up the tonal balance of the music. At least try them..

I have had good luck with PS Audio power cords. I currently use Statement, and am planning to try some in the new SC series someday soon. The Statement is clean and clear, but not harsh or bright like some more expensive cords. Great bass, too. I prefer it over Shunyata Python Alpha.
Happy listening.

to find a better cable than the Zu "Bok" cable available direct from the manufacturer (no connection) on E-Bay.
The Statement SC is a very nice cord. PS Audio tends to present music with a lot of weight. I know this annoys some folks who find it to be too heavy. I vastly prefer their sound to a lot of other power cables that provide great detail, but lose all the punch and acceleration.
There are too many choices and not enough dollars to buy them all!I wish I could afford to buy - or borrow - all of the power cords being recommended just so I could see what they sound like with my systems, but I am out of luck there. I am just going to have to buy what I can afford now and change them out sometime in the future if they lack synergy with my equipment. I'm still hoping that whatever I buy is bound to be better than the stock cords. :-)
(Then again, maybe I'll turn out to be one of those people who are unable to hear the differences made by better power cords. :-( )
I would highly recommen DCCA Power cords for your compoents!Congratulations of the DROPLET CD player ! i have one as wella nd absolutely love it! So musical and looks stunning! Let me know what your impressions are!
I am looking forward to getting my CDP. I bought it used on Audiogon so it should be almost burnt in, too! Do you use the DCCA poser cord on your Droplet? I have emailed them to find out what they recommend.
Hi Holly. Don from DCCA is great to work with ask if he has any demo cables which have been already broken in and are much cheaper! I use THE SOURCE DDCA cord on my Droplet and its excellent! Forget the stock cord with the cd player - I have also used a AUDIO METALLURGY GA-ZERO 9 power cord on the CD which was also excellent. Much lighter and flexible and has the awesome FURUTECH series 25 Gold plugs and connectors...I have a spare 4 foot length one for sale if you are interested - let me know.
Otherwise i`m sure you`ll love the DROPLET.
Still no response from DCCA. :-(
Very strange! Don is always very prompt in replying - maybe outta town or something....Still have that AUDIO METALLURGY CORD if interested!
rockcityaor - Please send me an email about the Audio Metallurgy cable - your impressions of the cable, price, etc.Received the Droplet yesterday. What a thing of beauty! Got it set up this morning and I am now listening to it - and grinning from ear to ear.

I hope to have an answer from DCCA when I get home and can check my email. I did ask him about the availability of demo cables, too - it would be nice to save a little money!I will look for your cable for sale in the Audiogon cable market - or if you aren't selling it there, please send me an email about it.
I recommend you try Black Sand power cords, either Violet or Silver Reference. They are both easily within your budget. They offer 30 day money back guarantee so it's not going to cost you much to try them.Other cord I would recommend is Acrolink with Oyaide connectors.
Read review below to get some basic idea.
What a great review thread, kaaos! I don't know how I completely missed that. (head-fi is my home page.) I just ordered 2 of the Black Sand Violet cords. :-)
Holly, let us know how you like them...
that the author of that review, Mark1, has recently gone to Virtual Dynamics Nite II cords. It was in an effort to synergize with his new RAM CDP really, but keep that in mind. Hey, Mark, if you're reading this, isn't it time to update your 18-cord review thread?
At the price, I thought the Black Sand cords were a steal; guess I'll find out if they sound good with my equipment. Markl seemed very impressed with them and I imagine they will be much better than my stock cords, anyway. :-)I still need one more power cord - forgot that I also needed one for my Art Audio Carissa tube amp - and the Nite 2 cord has been recommended to me. I just can't find them for sale. Virtual Dynamics' web site appears to be under construction, but only the Nite 3 cables are being listed on it.
I'll keep looking, though!
If you're patient they come up on Audiogon. With the newer version 3 cords coming out some of the series 2 power cords will pop up. Be prepared to pounce on them, they tend to go fast. I just moved my Master 2 to my DAC and it made a nice difference.
I will indeed keep an eye out for one of the Nite 2s, and hope I have the $$ availble if one does come up for sale.
