I finally finished adding the extended kit to my Foreplay III and have added the Welborne remote control as well. I mentioned this remote earlier, but had no pictures, so this will be my first attempt to post a picture to this site. This volume control gives a lot more choices for volume level, particularly in the quieter regions, and also includes remote balance, my favorite toy. The only negative is that the volume starts at Zero whenever the control is turned off; however, it has a separate power supply and can be left on if desired, even while the Foreplay is off. And did I mention how great this unit sounds? It just has a few hours on the extended addition and already sounds stunning. (Oh yeah - the tube dampers are by nutube)

Nice work! It looks great!I am assembling an FPIII at the moment and have completed the option 1 remote kit by Welborne.
I am new at this stuff and cannot figure out how to wire in the option 1 remote to the FPIII.Do you have any suggestions on how to connect?
Thanks
I followed diagram on page 19 of Welborne's instructions. If you will complete the Foreplay as stock and then pull the 2 volume controls, replacing each wire with Welborne as you do it, it should be easy. If not, email me at glynnwilson@comcast.net and I will arrange to help you through it.

Thanks Glynn.

Every time I think I'm almost done tweaking...another tweak comes along and I get to figuring again!Awesome job, and thanks for posting...this one really has me thinking.
Btw, does that remote have a 'mute' function, or do you just have to turn it down and back up again? (okay...so I'm reeeeeeally lazy)

Remote has volume, balance (a left - right toggle - easy to use) mute, input (if you choose that option) and power. Apparently the power switch can somehow be used to turn on the preamp, but I have no idea how - not important to ma at this time.

Boy that is a beautiful job! you have me interested in trying the remote volume! 1 question tho: what is it on top that u used to cover the holes there? it looks neat.

Those are the volume up and down buttons so I can change the volume when standing by the preamp without trying to find the remote. Just a push button in each hole with a stainless steel washer around each to cover the small hole that orients the old volume controls.

Great job. Tell us more about the remote....Left and Right independant ? Or one
Cheers

And here is the underside - sorry my camera doesn't take good closeups. The Welborne unit fits easily and is simply suspended by the wiring. Infrared receiver on front of circuit board goes behind hole in base.

The picture of your underside says you're missing the latest tweak from Doc. and Paul. The power regulator board is now suggested to have bypass caps across two resistors. Check the posts here on the newsgroup for a post from doc. regarding this.Nice job on the remote control.

Did it and couldn't here a difference so I removed them. This preamp is so quiet in my system that you need to get an inch or so off one of the Straight 8's woofers to hear any hum. None audible at 6 inches. Good enuff for me.
Thanks

Would love to hear a pair some day.
