Hi,
I'm doing some silver wire interconnects, so, also, I will like to upgrade to silver the input internal cable and I'm wonder if this is mandatory to be a shielded cable like the AN-V or can be, without any truoble, just two runs of twisted in pairs silver wire (in this case, with cotton sleeves as dialectric).
Regards,
Beto

Hi,I can only say that I have an old DAc 1.1 modded etc but some months ago I changed the AN-E to AN-V and the improvement was not subtle, as they say. It was nothing short of a huge difference instantly.
I would say if the other silver wire is easy to manufacture, go ahead and test it, but, at some point try the AN-V.
After all if you find it doesnt improve the sound, you can always make an AN-V IC with it. Compared to the total cost of the Kit1 and
*your expectations* of it, you will soon forget the price of the AN-V... I think Kit1 can get better and better, the more you put in it, the more you will get.
Hi Betol ,I use twisted silver/cotton in my Kit1 (and other preamp and Dac)
and it works fine without noise or hum.
Hi Beto,Check the audionote.co.uk website for lots of pics of audionote internals. It seems that shielded cable isn't required, but smart routing or shielding using metal separators might be a good idea.
Check out Brian's pre amp kits as well, all using unshielded twisted pair.
Regards,
Hello Hans,
well, M2 use shielded AN-A, M3 don't use any shielded cable. Both use the metal barrier. The same with finished AN gear, some uses, some no.
Still confuse.
Thanks for post.
best regards,
Beto

Hi Beto,Shielded cable is preferred, but unshielded cable is apparently acceptable when routed properly. If you want to provide the best product possible, but for an affordable price, you need to spend your budget on the right parts. Money spent on cable can not be used for caps or transformers.
Personally, I like this no-nonsense philosophy: if it works, why not? There's probably lots of gear around that isn't worth its money because its creators had other priorities than sound-value for money ;)
Regards,
Dear Hans,I never post anything to say I disagree with anybody because I know very little and have very limited experience. But, I seem to find a problem with your line of thinking, *if* one assumes the silver wire is inferior to AN-V. This I do not know, but, if this is true, what is gone is gone in the input.
Ever heard of "GIGO" Garbage-in-garbage-out? The best transformers or caps wont recreate your input signal once it is messed up.
The same with the IC's. The golden rule I learned from Peter Q is to use the best IC near the source.
Hi Zuheyr,I'm not an expert either, but who knows what we might learn from each other :)
GIGO is an important concept and what's lost is lost, agreed!
Balance is also a valid consideration, however. When deciding to spend either $30,- on a pair of speakers and $3000,- on an interlink, or the other way around, the choice is easy for me: $30,- speakers have a much greater (negative) impact on sound quality than a $3000,- interlink could ever fix.
Matching components of similar quality is what Audio Note's level system seems to be all about: making sure people don't spend money on the wrong things.
In the end it all depends on the over-all level of Beto's set if it is wise to spend money on shielded cable or on something else. Don't you agree?
Regards,
Hans
fwiw, on my m3 I wired with AN-A, AN-V and ptfe silver on 3 separate inputs. They all sound different, but I prefer the ptfe silver. Similar sonic differences to what I have found with AN Cu vs AN Ag caps: silver is more neutral but also less colorful. Truly, a matter of taste and synergy. If I didn't have the 3 choices, my neurosis would probably be more curable...

Thanks guys,
maybe ptfe silver was similar to a run of 0.5mm silver wire but with cotton dialectric instead of teflon.
Regarding routing, maybe I have to go to the oposite side of the power TX, I guess.
Best regards,
Beto
p.s. I will consider, also, putting the Elma switch close to the back panel, with a mechanical device connected to the front panel, in order to have short wires.

Hi Beto,My KIT ONE has 3 inputs : 1 is connected to the switch with AN-A, and the 2 others with twisted PTFE silverwire provided by Brian.
To be honest the PTFE silver wires are a good VFM but the AN-A is far ahead in terms of definition, rhythm, homogenity..
Therefore I am plugging the TT to the input AN-A wired. If I would build another KIT ONE, I would implement a mechanical linkage between the switch in front and a "mirror" switch in the back in order to minimize the wiring lenghts and use AN-V cable.
