Hi,I have a pair of Snell E II speakers. I have been reading that they are similar to the Audio Note E Speaker Kits. The dimensions of the cabinets seem very similar.
Does anyone know if Audio Note Cross Over and Drivers would work well in the Snell Cabinets or is this a a crazy idea?
Thanx

Dear Simon,It should work fine, but you need to change the port diameter and length.
The speaker kits come with a port tube.
This seemed reasonable to me. Supposedly Peter Snell was in on the development of the AN speakers and the Snell IIs were his last effort there, or so I've heard. I was going to put them into Snell J II cabinets amd make me some AN Js.I emailed Peter Q and he said it wouldn't work.
Dear Jake,Sadly Peter was long dead when I started the work on replicating the performance of the Type K, J and E in 1987, had he been alive I would never have bothered, because he would have done a far better job!
The speaker kits are based on the AN-E and they will therefore work fine in the Type E/II cabinet (NOT in the E/III where the cabinet is narrower), as long as the new port tube is used, the Snell Type J was half the cabinet volume of the Type E, so none of our current speaker kits are suitable.
If there is enough interest I can easily make a kit based on the AN-J, the only issue is that this will cost the same as the AN-E kits, which off course raises some questions regarding value!
Dear PeterI just read your post. I am a new member to this forum and am hoping you will have some advice for me.
I have a pair of Snell E/IIIs that I have enjoyed for several years. Recently they began to sound damaged. Upon removal of the screens I noticed that the woofer surrounds on both are disintegrating. The easy fix would probably be to have them replaced. But I am wondering if, since there have been many technological advances in the Snell line, would you offer an opinion on upgrading instead?
You advice is most welcome
Dear Greg,I don't know whether the foam surrounds we use on the drivers for the AN-E would work on the E/III, they might, but since the drivers are different it is possible they don't.
Ooops! Just goes to show what I know.
