Every preamp/line stage I've tried since I got my LW-1 sounds like they're interposing too much "stuff" between the music and me. You'd have to spend some serious bucks to beat the sound of this little unit with an active line stage....and why bother, if you can configure your system to take advantage of what this little wonder offers? If you're driving monoblocs via long interconnects, this ain't for you. But if you've got a reasonably sensitive, high input impedance amp that you can place within 1/2 meter of the LW-1, then give it a try!
